RE: ARB-2016-54: Pet Valu Sign
Dear Mr. Dudley,
I have reviewed the above-noted sign application. The following revisions are requested to make the
proposal consistent with the Entrance Corridor Sign Guidelines.
1. The proposed sign does not meet approved Comprehensive Sign Criteria (CSC) specific to this
development as follows.
a. Approved CSC require channel letters either on a raceway or direct-mount to the wall.
Sign B does not meet that requirement as it has a background. Revise to meet the
approved sign type - channel letters without a background. The approved CSC are
attached. Please note the CSC state the following regarding the use of graphics with a
channel letter sign:
i. Maximum height (of graphic) not to exceed the tallest letter in the sign. When
used, graphics shall be sized and located to appear as an integral part of the
overall sign.
2. Other issues identified include:
a. No details provided of the proposed tenant panel sign for the freestanding sign.
Approved tenant panel criteria include a Mathew Dark Bronze opaque background with
white text or graphics.
b. The sign drawing does not indicate the height of the sign bands.
c. The following note limiting the intensity of LED illumination for wall signs and the tenant
panel sign was not included on the sign drawings:
The level of illumination provided by the LED lights will not exceed the illumination
produced by a single stroke of 30 milliamp (ma) neon.
Please respond by email within 15 days of the date of this letter indicating whether you will or will not
proceed with these revisions. Your decision to make the revisions will suspend the 60-day review period
associated with your original submittal. If you choose to complete the revisions, please email the revised
drawings to me. If you choose not to proceed with these revisions, staff will be unable to approve your
application. Failure to respond to this letter shall be presumed to be a request to proceed to action on
the application without further revisions.
If you have any questions about this action, please contact me as soon as possible. I look forward to
receiving your revisions and completing this review with an approval letter.
Sincerely,

RE: ARB-2016-54: Pet Valu Sign
Dear Mr. Dudley,
I have reviewed the above-noted sign application. The following revisions are requested to make the proposal consistent
with the Entrance Corridor Sign Guidelines.
1. The proposed sign does not meet approved Comprehensive Sign Criteria (CSC) specific to this development as
follows.
2
a. Approved CSC require channel letters either on a raceway or direct-mount to the wall. Sign B does not
meet that requirement as it has a background. Revise to meet the approved sign type - channel letters
without a background. The approved CSC are attached. Please note the CSC state the following regarding
the use of graphics with a channel letter sign:
i. Maximum height (of graphic) not to exceed the tallest letter in the sign. When used, graphics
shall be sized and located to appear as an integral part of the overall sign.
05-10-16 Review:
• Approved CSC for this building allow graphics with the channel letter sign as long as the graphics are
located to appear as an integral part of the overall sign.
• The round graphics in this latest proposal do not have an integrated appearance with the channel
letter portion of the sign due to the degree of distance between each graphic and the channel letter
portion of the sign. Revising the sign drawings by reducing in half the space between each graphic
and the nearest channel letter should adequately address this issue.
2. Other issues identified include:
a. No details provided of the proposed tenant panel sign for the freestanding sign. Approved tenant panel
criteria include a Mathew Dark Bronze opaque background with white text or graphics.
05-10-16 Review: This comment has been adequately addressed.
b. The sign drawing does not indicate the height of the sign bands.
05-10-16 Review: This comment has been adequately addressed.
c. The following note limiting the intensity of LED illumination for wall signs and the tenant panel sign was
not included on the sign drawings:
The level of illumination provided by the LED lights will not exceed the illumination produced by a single
stroke of 30 milliamp (ma) neon.

Subject: RE: ARB 2016-54, Pet Valu Sign, Margaret Maliszewski - Revised Drawings attached dated 5/4/16
Hi Brent-
Please find revised drawings per our conversation to move the graphic sign (Sign B.) over next to the "pet valu" channel
letters (Sign A.). As I mentioned, I had to first obtain approval from Pet Valu's Corporate Design
Dept. and they prefer the graphic logo be on either side of the "pet valu" channel letters. It is unfortunate that our sign
band does not continue over our entire leased space, which is the basis for all the discussion, because our storefront is
not like any of the other tenants and as such, provisions should have made with the initial CSP. We were provided the
attached screenshot showing all of the tenants in their brand colors.
Since we have a single door to the right, Pet Valu Corporate prefers to have the single logo over that door for customer
convenience so they don’t feel as though they need to walk down to the other end to enter.
Please let us know your thoughts and hopefully, we can finalize our sign permit so we can start production to meet our
open date.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Regards,
Valerie
