RE: Rejection of Application: ARB 201600061, Grand Home Furnishings - signs
Dear Mr. Gearheart,
We have received the above -referenced application for a county -wide Certificate of Appropriateness. We
are unable to accept your application because the following items were missing from your submittal:
A. Application Fee — Under "3. ARB Review — WilI the permanent sign(s) be constructed in an
Entrance Corridor?" the wrong box was selected. No previously approved Comprehensive Sign
Plan exists that includes the Grand Home Furnishings building. Therefore, the first line item
should have been selected. Provide the $129 fee that is required for the ARB review portion of
this application.
B. Free standing monument sign
I . Accurately represent the length and width of the monument sign on the site plan.
2. Provide the location and width of all utility easements, in the vicinity of the proposed
monument sign, on the site plan. The water line is difficult to see on the plans provided.
Improve its visibility. If the monument sign will be within any of the easements a letter
of approval from the easement holder will be required.
3. Provide dimensions (length, width and height) for the base for the sign.
4. Provide dimensions (length and height) for each line of the proposed lettering on the sign.
5. Provide the width of the white boarder around the copy/text.
6. Provide an updated "Sign Diagrams" sheet that has the "Monument Sign — Diagram 2"
filled out. The "Pole -Mounted Sign — Diagram 1" was filled out accidentally.
7. Specify and clarify the colors for the submission.
i. The cap is specified as white but appears to be off-white in the provided drawing.
ii. The body is specified as Pantone 468C, which is off-white, but appears to be
brown in the provided drawing.
iii. No color for the copy/text is fisted in the "colors" line. However, in the
"materials" line a blue vinyl is mentioned for the "copy area". Specify whether
the copy/text will be blue or black as shown in the color illustration for the
monument sign.
iv. Provide standard color ID # for all colors specified.
8. If the sign has any external light sources, provide their location (on a plan and/or
elevation drawing) and a manufacturer's cut sheet describing their illumination type,
intensity, style, shielding, color and height. All lighting must meet ordinance
requirements as outlined in section 4.17 of the Zoning Ordinance.
9. If the sign has an internal light source, indicate which areas of the sign are opaque and
which are illuminated. Also provide illumination type, intensity and color of the lights.
10. Provide a plan showing proposed landscaping around the sign including botanical names
and planting sizes.
C. Wall sign
I . Provide the depth of the wall sign in a sectional view of the sign.
2. Provide the dimensions (length and height) for the "sign areas" in which each of the two
wall signs will be placed. The "sign areas" would be the full length of the wall and the
vertical distance between the decorative brick band and the concrete cap at the top of the
wall. Also provide dimensions for the height above grade for each of the "sign areas"
3. Specify the sign type (ex. Channel Letters) and type of illumination.
4. Provide standard color ID # for all colors specified.
6. If the sign has an internal light source indicate the illumination type and color of the
lights.
7. Provide a note that states that "The level of illumination provided by the LED lights will
not exceed the illumination produced by a single stroke of 30 milliamps (ma) neon."
I've attached examples of approved submittals for these types of signs.
Within 15 days of the date of this letter, you may resubmit the application with all of the information
required by the ARB Checklist for a sign permit. The date of the next submittal deadline following the
date that the revised submittal is received by the County will be considered the new submittal date. If you
fail to resubmit within the 15 day period, the application shall be denied and a new application and fee
will be required.
If you have any questions about this process, feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
