Project Proposal Crozet Volunteer Fire Department:
The construction of an electronic message sign to be built in front of the Crozet Volunteer Fire
Department firehouse.
The installation of an electronic sign is requested to enable the fire department to display messages for
the purpose of informing the community of Crozet of emergency situations as well as displaying non
emergent messages of local interest to the community. The new electronic sign will replace the current
message sign board, which has existed for several decades having provided the same services as
described above. The new electronic sign will be put in the same location of the old sign, that being on
the lawn in front of the fire house and easily viewable by both vehicle passengers and pedestrians. The
new electronic sign will incorporate the latest technology and display messages at a very high resolution
allowing the new sign to be smaller 3'X6' rather than the current 4'X8'sign.
The luminosity of the sign is governed by rules set up by the Architectural Review Board based on the
time of day, which will insure any excess light exposure to adjacent land owners is kept to a minimum.
Additionally, there will be substantial distance from the new sign to the border of the fire department
property, which should also minimize any negative effects on the adjacent property.
The construction of an electronic sign should have no negative effect on the harmony, purpose or intent
of the zoning ordinance and will in fact enhance the primary function of the Crozet Volunteer Fire
Department by providing important information to the residents of Crozet, that is to say the sign will be
a positive effect on the public health, safety and general welfare.
The construction of the electronic sign should have no negative effect on the Crozet Master Plan or the
County's Comprehensive Plan.
The construction of the electronic sign should have no impact on public facilities and public
infrastructure.
The construction of the electronic sign should have no impact on the local environment.
