David - I have reviewed the above -noted sign application. The following revisions are requested to the sign
drawings for Signs Al and A2 to make the proposal consistent with the Entrance Corridor Sign Guidelines.
Signs 131 and B2 do not require ARB review and approval due to their insufficient visibility from the Route 29
Entrance Corridor right-of-way.
1. The required $129 Architectural Review Board (ARB) sign application fee has not been received. The
ARB approval letter and corresponding sign permit will not be released until that fee has been paid.
Checks should be made out to Albemarle County and mailed to:
Department of Community Development
401 McIntire Road, North Wing
Charlottesville, VA 22902
Note on the check that it is for "ARB2016-72, Hollymead Town Center Signs"
2. Revise the sign drawings to indicate the product manufacturer and product ID for the brick and
mortar in the sign structures. It should match that used in the existing freestanding signs.
3. The site plan drawings showing the sign locations are not the approved site plans showing the
approved/existing condition. The approved site plan/planting plan drawings for both sign locations
(Al and A2) are attached. Use these drawings to show the sign locations. The signs will need to meet
required sign setbacks and avoid utilities such as storm water structures. The removal of any trees
should be avoided as they are required and any shrubs that are to be removed should be indicated
on the drawings.
4. ARB sign guidelines encourage tenant panel colors that are coordinated. Revising the sign drawing
to clearly indicate the following with notes would be appropriate:
1. All tenant panel text shall be limited to one color (indicate the color).
2. All tenant panel backgrounds shall be limited to one color (indicate the color).
3. There shall be no limit to the graphic colors as long as the total number is limited to 3 plus
black and white and the colors contribute to a coordinated appearance for all the overall sign
structure (a verbatim note would be appropriate).
Please respond by email within 15 days of the date of this letter indicating whether you will or will not proceed
with these revisions. Your decision to make the revisions will suspend the 60 -day review period associated with
your original submittal. If you choose to complete the revisions, please email the revised drawings to me. If you
choose not to proceed with these revisions, staff will be unable to approve your application. Failure to respond
to this letter shall be presumed to be a request to proceed to action on the application without further revisions.
If you have any questions about this action, please contact me as soon as possible. I look forward to receiving
your revisions and completing this review with an approval letter.
Sincerely,
Brent
