Doug - I have completed my review and just a few issues remain needing to be addressed.
1. Revise all sign drawings to include a latest revision date.
2. Some of the drawings state "Dual Lit Letters" which contradicts the "Opaque Backs — No Halo"
reference on the drawings. Please remove.
3. Revise the BJ's logo/graphic sign drawings to include the following note: "Opaque background, only the
text "BJ's" shall illuminate."

exception for free standing buildings in Block G of Stonefield. (Please see below). The September 6th meeting is past our

I spoke to Margaret at the County. She said Regal Theatres, Pier One and Trader Joes are all internally illuminated. There
was an exception in the sign criteria for those blocks ( Block C-1 and A) for free standing buildings. She said there
probably should have been an exception for our block too ( Block G).
She is willing to ask the ARB on Sept 6t" to allow us to have internal illumination. I need to get support from Edens, the
landlord/developer, and email that to her.
I will work on that.

RE: ARB -2016-85: BJ's Signs
Dear Mr. Stemler,
I have reviewed the above -noted sign application. The following revisions are requested to make the
proposal consistent with the Entrance Corridor Sign Guidelines.
1. The proposed signs do not meet approved Comprehensive Sign Criteria (CSC) specific to this
section of the Stonefield development as follows:
a. Internally illuminated dual -lit (face -lit & halo -lit) channel letters are proposed. Approved
CSC permit either externally illuminated channel letters or reverse channel letters with
internal LED halo illumination only (opaque faces and returns). Revise to meet approved
criteria.
b. Internally illuminated cabinet signs (graphics) are proposed. Approved CSC permit
external illumination or no illumination.
c. The fixture location, lighting cutsheet (including bulb type/wattage) and fixture color
(bronze preferred) must be included for all external illumination. Lamps used for
external illumination shall not emit more than 3000 lumens each.
2. The proposed sign does not meet Architectural Review Board General Sign Guidelines as follows:
a. The following required note, limiting the intensity of all LED illumination, was not
included on the sign drawing:
"The level of illumination provided by the LED lights will not exceed the illumination
produced by a single stroke of 30 milliamp (ma) neon."
3. Miscellaneous:
a. The labeled direction of each building elevation is incorrect. The front elevation faces
north (not east) and the rear elevation faces south (not west). The "south (left)"
elevation (with signage) is the east elevation. The "north (right)" elevation (without
signage) is the west elevation. Revise the drawings accordingly.
b. Sign drawings include a proposed tenant panel in a freestanding sign. That sign cannot
be reviewed until a Sign Permit (ARB) Sign Application has been received and approved
for the freestanding tenant panel structure.
c. Approved Comprehensive Sign Criteria for this section of Stonefield are attached with
fagade sign criteria highlighted in yellow.
Please respond by email within 15 days of the date of this letter indicating whether you will or will not
proceed with these revisions. Your decision to make the revisions will suspend the 60 -day review period
associated with your original submittal. If you choose to complete the revisions, please email the revised
drawings to me. If you choose not to proceed with these revisions, staff will be unable to approve your
application. Failure to respond to this letter shall be presumed to be a request to proceed to action on
the application without further revisions.
If you have any questions about this action, please contact me as soon as possible. I look forward to
receiving your revisions and completing this review with an approval letter.
