The Department of Community Development hereby grants approval of a LOR for the improvements described in the letter and shown on the attached exhibits dated March 13, 2017. The current proposal modifies the previously approved site plan by adding a 285 square foot raised viewing platform (6' tall raised deck) listed on the LOR as a "treehouse",which will also include stairway and ADA ramp/path. Additionally, the proposal adds a new 480 square foot pavilion over an existing concrete slab. This is the first(1St) LOR for this site. The treehouse is approximately 4' above ground and will have a stairway and a 4' wide accessible ramp. The location of the treehouse is shown on the attached exhibit 1A. 2. A 480 square foot(approximate) pavilion is proposed. The pavilion is approximately 16' wide by 30' long by 12' high (measured to ridge of gable) and is located over an existing concrete slab (see attached exhibit 18). The County's Planning, Zoning, and Engineering staff pushed this project through an expedited review outside of the true submittal date of 3-20-17 based the level of review required by staff and your expressed grant funding time frames w/UVA. I am glad that we were able to accommodate such a quick turnover this time; however, in the future to avoid these types of situations assure plans are submitted with County submittal and review schedules in mind, as opposed to merely projects completion schedules. The treehouse is going to be built by Freedom by Design, a group of architecture students at UVA who work to make wheelchair accessbile structures. Neither of us realized that there would need to be a letter of revision for this, and as a result we are pretty concerned about schedule.They won a grant to build this structure and have to complete it before exam period, which is not that far off. Is it at all possible we could get this approved really soon (like this week)? They have invested so much and worked so hard on this, I really had to have the project undermined by our failure to get the LOR in early. Thanks for your understanding.
