The existing 15 million gallon per day MGD) WWTP is being upgraded to provide for removal of nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients) which will include several new buildings and structures. New buildings and /or structures include the following: Bulk Chemical Storage Facility 1, Bulk Chemical Storage Facility 2, and electrical power centers. New structures, which are largely in- ground concrete tanks, open to the atmosphere, consist of an aeration basin, a secondary clarifier, tertiary filters, and UV disinfection /post. All new construction will be located on the existing site within the property boundaries. In addition to the above, internal modifications will be made to several existing buildings to accommodate new process - related equipment. Waiver Requests Moores Creek WWTP lies adjacent to Moores Creek and its associated floodplain. The Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority would like to request a waiver from stormwater detention requirements, citing section 17- 3145.6 of the Albemarle County Code which states: luncl dCVClnl)nlc'nt 01 a poll roll c, f ct hilld th'l'c'lnpliwilt u'hc't c' illy Mild 1,4' culjcrc'c'Iti t1, a /lock/ plain, cult/ tllc' r c/c'nuul.etrcltc'cl to t1w IY'cl.4nllcthh' .4cviS /[trtil,n o/ lhc' pi t (u1111ol itv 1hut o / / IIIII)l 1,I' lltllc'I pi - ovi, , oll'4' /1,i" 1/w chs1 , n47110u1 Of '% f' ll'tIt( IIt II(! // IvoItIt1 l'c/Il (III t' 111 hc'ttc'I s1't - 1'1' th(' I)IIh /11' illlc'I - 1'.4t ulid Su/r'iY, cold 1 /ICtt scrch 11wthod c,f dispo,4itinrl 11 - oldel 111 tidI c'I ct /fc'rt dolvil tl'c'uill rtic'S ol s7rrcml c'huluu'/.4; " Nen Yuck tJV • P [III 7 Cie Iphia. A waiver for a landscaping plan is also requested as a result of the unique use ofthesite. Description of Stormwater Calculations Two areas exist where modifications or additions were made to the stormwaterdrainagepiping. Area 1, which is located on sheets C13, C14, C16, and C17, and Area 2, whichislocatedonsheetC12. Area 1 For construction purposes, a segment of existing roadway must be demolished. This roadway will be replaced at the conclusion of work. For this reason, theexistingstormwaterpipingsystemintheareawillberemovedandanewsystemwillbe installed in its place. In the attached figures, profiles, and calculations for Area 1, the newpipinginthenetworkislimitedtopipes2 -6, and 8 -10. All other piping in this area is existing, and will remain as such through the duration of the project. The entire network in this area was modeled to verify the total capacity of the system, and the attached calculations demonstrate that the storm drain pipingsuccessfullyconveysflowtothecreek. Area 2 This area consists of two new facilities and a proposed access road. Storm drainpipingisaddedtodrainthisarea, and connects to an existing network. The proposed storm water piping is represented in the attached figures as pipes 5 -8, with existingpipinglabeled1 -4. This network was modeled to verify the total capacity of the system, and the attached calculations demonstrate successful conveyance of flow to the creek. Sincerely, HAZEN AND SAWYER, P.C. Matthew D.
