Distribution Lines The distribution system is designed to ultimately serve 66 single family services. The design flow, at 3 GPM per service, is 198 GPM. 1. The first section of line is 1640' long from the tank to a pressure reducing valve at elevation 890' , has 9 service connections. Elevation Head: 1080 - 890 = 190' (82 psi) Design Flow: 198 GPM Friction Head in 4" PVC Pipe: 1.96'/100 = 32' Residual Head = 190 - 32' = 158' (68 psi) Difference between static and flowing = 190 - 158 = 32' (14 psi) I A...L....„,„.„,,,,,,,,s. 1 _ , '-c C'' 2. A 1-1/2" PVC pipe, 600' long, follows the lot line between lots 9 and 11 to serve 5 single family residences is designed for a flow of 15 GPM. Elevation Head: 1080 - 782 = 298' (129 psi) Friction Head Loss: 1. 11'/100' = 6. 7' (2.9 psi) Residual Head: 289' - 6. 7' - 32 = 250' (108 psi) 3. A 1=1/2" PVC pipe tees to the east for 420' to serve 3 residences. One service is very close to the tee. The 420' line is designed for 2 services at a flow of 6 GPM. Elevation Head: 1080 - 762 = 318' (138 psi) Friction Head Loss: 0. 22'/100' = 0.9' (.4 psi) Residual Head: 318 - 0.9 - 32' = 285. 1' (123 psi) The 1-1/2 line to the west serves only 2 residences and the line elevation is essentially flat. From the above calculations it is evident that adequate flow and pressure will be provided by this 180' long line Pressure reducing valves will be required in each of the 5 houses when they are built. 4. The 4" main line continues for a distance of 610' to another tee. The design flow is 153 GPM to serve a possible 53 single family residences. Elevation Head: 1080 - 855 = 225' (97 psi) Friction Head Loss: 1.2'/100' = 7. 3' Residual Head: 225' - 7. 3' - 32' = 185. 7' (80 psi) Difference between static and flowing = 39.3' (17 psi) The four services on this line will require pressure reducing valves. 5. A 1-1/2" line tees off for a distance of 600' to serve 5 single family residences. The design flow is 15 GPM. Elevation Head: 1080' - 880' = 200' (87 psi) Friction Head Loss: 1.11'/100' = 6. 7' (2.9 psi) Residual Head: 200 - 6.7 - 39.3 = 154' ( 67 psi) These 5 services will require pressure reducing valves. 2 6. The 4" main continues down the road for a distance of 850' to a dead end with a blow-off assembly. The design flow is 120 GPM for a possible 40 single family residential services. The only adequate place to locate the storage tank in order to serve the entire section is at the highest point in the section. 2. Proximity of residents. The tank is located at the highest point which is at one end of the subdivision. The supply line also enters the subdivision at the same end. 3. Potential sources of pollution The septic fields have all been approved by the local sanitarians for the State Health Department. The well has been in service for five years and regular sample analysis has proved negative. (m. ) Financing 1. Estimated cost. Pump $4,000 Tank 7,000 1600' - 2" pipe 9,600 4300' - 4" pipe 34,400 (including services and valves) Total $55,000 2. Annual cost of operation. The additional operating cost will be primarily the cost of electricity to run the pump. The consumption of electricity will increase with the number of services connected. At 6 cents per kilowatt-hour and running the pump 8 hours per day, the annual cost would be less than $400. The service charges will pay for the additional cost. 3. Proposed method of financing. The owner will provide the capital cost financing and customer service charges will continue to support the operation.
