The entire area to be occupied by the dam embankment shall be stripped to a sufficient depth to remove all vegetation and unsuitable material, as determined by the engineer. 2. The cutoff trench shall be excavated to bedrock or at least to 5 feet below the bottom of the outflow pipe, and backfilled with dam construction material. 3. New reinforced concrete pipes shall be laid under the dam embankment with risers and inlets as shown. The pipes under the dam _ embankment shall have seepage collars cast in place as shown. 4. Soils with a permeability of 1X-10-7cm/sec have been identified in the surrounding areas. Fill material shall be taken tram„these greas only where erosion control permits have been issued as directed by the engineer. Compaction shall be a minu-num of 95% in accordahce' ivlth the American Society for Testing and Material (ASTM) ©-1557 and within 2% of optimum moisture content.Maxim—r m,fi(t height material „of shall be 6 inches loose thickness. Where deemed necessary 'by the Albemarle County Department of .Engineering (ACDF), compaction test results shall be supplied periodically during the course of construction to the ACDF to ensure compliance with the design. Soil classification data (gradation and Atterberg limits) shall be secured for the soils actually used in the dam to assure the above noted permeability. 5. In some cases the pipes are to be in at an elevation above the natural ground. Where this occurs, backfill shall be placed and t' fVf compacted to the elevation of the top of the pipe and re -excavated to lay pipe. 9 -BE MAIRr PE COUNTY Et-,Xv INEERING D -FI ;'ABUMIE NT /// ',, ' / r ! ----- _----------,_ i .,,•mss%' = i ,_-- i ,moi . .✓ = J,; J. -_ _-_ ___s -; _ _.-.
