The SCHOOLS division will be constructing this summer the Phase 2 of the Metal Panels & Windows Replacement work at AHS so I need to alert you (as portions of the work this summer will be visible from Hydraulic Road, namely, the new metal panels, at the roof line, of the Art / Music Wing. This second phase of work will continue the work begun in Phase 1 and will utilize the same anodized aluminum panels installed in Phase 1 (and which match the 2008 MESA addition). This phased, new work will unify the appearance by swapping out existing, (severely -deteriorated) synthetic panels with new ones. Also, we'll be replacing windows on the back -side of the Art / Music Wing and the side of the Foreign Language Wing that faces the rear bus lot; both not visible from Hydraulic Road. The windows on the Art / Music wing are on the back -side and not visible. The windows on the Foreign Language wing are concealed by the church building and woods located at the corner of Hydraulic Road and Lambs Road (as we determined last year with the Phase 1 metal panel work). All of this planned work is delineated in red notes on the attached .PDF file. My hope is you can administratively approve this work (as was done last summer). Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information for a building permit within the next week or so. Thank You! Montie From: Montie Breeden Sent: Friday, May 13, 201611:42 AM To: Margaret Maliszewski <MMaliszewski@albemarle.org> Subject: RE: AHS- Metal Panels Replacement Project: Information for ARB Review Margaret: I'll be submitted the application You're correct, the area of new (metal panel) work is not visible from Hydraulic. The church at the intersection with Lambs Road and the woods behind the church obscure the view to that part of AHS.. According to our A/E, they have specified the same finish aluminum color (three -coat automotive type finish to match the recent addition metal panels) but we don't yet know what the contractor will actually be providing. We expect it to be close if not exact. The system of installation, however, is different. The new panels, with no exposed fasteners, will sit in a thin metal track that is the same color as the metal panels — much like the set-up of the existing panels we're replacing -- instead of being surrounded by black gaskets that are on the recently -constructed MESA addition Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns or want me to follow-up when I have the actual sample in hand. Montie From: Margaret Maliszewski Sent: Friday, May 13, 201610:13 AM To: Montle Breeden <mbreeden2 albemarle.or > Subject: RE: AHS- Metal Panels Replacement Project: Information for ARB Review Montle, From your illustration, it looks to me like the area of work won't be visible from Hydraulic Road. Do you agree? If it isn't visible, then no ARB review is required. One question, though: Are you planning to use the same exact panels as were previously approved, or panels that are similar? Margaret From: Montle Breeden Sent: Thursday, May 12, 201612:05 PM To: Margaret Maliszewski <MMaliszewski albemarle.or > Subject: AHS- Metal Panels Replacement Project: Information for ARB Review Margaret: It's been awhile since our last communication. Very nice addition to your family! I'm following up on an initial contact that Sheila Hoopmann, of SCHOOLS Building Services Dept., made regarding the planned replacement of decorative building panels at AHS. The existing panels, dating from a 70s or 80s addition, are rotting and falling apart. The plan is to replace them with new metal panels like the ones installed on the MESA addition (NE comer) a few years ago. Doing so will certainly "refresh" the exterior dated appearance of one wing of the school and at the same time begin to unify the overall look of the building with the integration of these new panels. Attached to this email is information provided by the A/E to depict the location of the work, the existing conditions, and references to the recently completed work. We're in the process of finalizing the construction contract for work that is scheduled to begin in mid -JUN and was dismayed to learn follow-up with you had not been prompt. Please review (either administratively or with the board, as you deem necessary) and let me know if you have any questions or need additional information. Thank You! Montie Montie R.
