These spaces will serve the administrative staff, field engineers who use com- pany provided pick up trucks and visitors to the new office building. On occasion, (perhaps once every two or three months) a tractor trailer delivery will need to maneuver to the rear por- tion of the laboratory building. An ex- tension of the entrance drive is shown to accommodate this function. Building We have divided the project into two similar building volumes in order to break down the scale of the project similar to buildings along the road in this area. Each of the two proposed buildings sections uses a simple single slope agricultural building form similar to barns found in the area. The fa- cades facing the entrance corridor further break down the scale by using a combination of clerestory windows, brick veneer and siding, all elements commonly found in the agricultural landscape of western Albemarle County. The horizontal watertable at the base of the clerestory windows is carried around the majority of the perimeter of the building to reinforce the human scale of the building. This will balance the length of the building which relates to the highway charac- ter of this section of the road. Proposed Site Organization Froeling & Robertson, Inc.
