Box 6585 Charlottesville, VA 22906 RE: ARB -2017-22: Daily Grind - Signs Dear Mr. Smith, Fax (434) 972-4126 I have reviewed the above -noted sign application. The following revisions are requested to make the proposal consistent with the Entrance Corridor Sign Guidelines. The sign plan must include all of the information required. Include all of the information you have previously submitted and the additional information requested in this letter. The sign plan must include: 1. The date of the first submission and the revision dates. Specify the revision date of the resubmission once these modifications have been made and the sign plan is ready for resubmittal. Rev. 1: Comment Addressed. 2. The "Coffee & Ice Cream" portion of the sign is not Channel Letters as specified in the Comprehensive Sign Plan (CSP). Revise the sign to include all channel letters and not to include a tag line portion of the sign that is a cabinet sign type. Rev. 1: Comment Addressed. 3. The total height of the sign according to the CSP should not be more than 17". More than 1 T' would crowd the sign band area and therefore not meet the Entrance Corridor Sign Guidelines or the CSP requirements. Revise the sign in order to meet this requirement. Placing both "Daily Grind" and "Coffee & Ice Cream" all on one line would allow these requirements to be met. Rev. 1: Comment Addressed. 4. Once revised if "Daily Grind" and "Coffee & Ice Cream" have two different text heights provide the height of both on the sign plan. Rev. 1: Comment Addressed. 5. Once the sign type and sign height is revised, to match the specifications in the CSP, ensure that the sign is centered vertically in the sign band and horizontally in the portion of the sign band specifically for the storefront. Add a note to the sign plan that specifies that the sign will be centered vertically and horizontally in the sign band. Rev. 1: Comment not fully addressed. Add a note to the sign plan that specifies that the sign will be centered vertically and horizontally in the sign band. 6. Specify the material for the trim caps of the channel letters. Note that the channel letters must have no light spilling outward from the top, bottom, sides and back. Rev. 1: Comment not fully addressed. Specify in the section detail that the plastic returns are to be "opaque". 7. Revise the sign plan to specify bronze trip caps and duranodic bronze returns as specified in the CSP. Rev. 1: Comment not fully addressed. The color specified for the returns is not consistent between the section detail an the side view. Specify in the side view, on the first sheet, that the returns are "duranodic bronze" and not just "bronze". 8. Ensure that the sign height from the sidewalk, which was hand written in the first submission, is also included in the resubmission. Rev. 1: Comment Addressed. 9. Ensure that the length of the storefront, which was hand written in the first submission, is also included in the resubmission. Rev. 1: Comment Addressed. 10. Revise the LED lighting note that is included in the section detail. The note has a small typographical error. It should read "...not to exceed the illumination produced by a single stroke of 30 milliamp (ma) neon." Change the note to specify "30" instead of "20". Rev. 1: COTriment Addressed. 11. [NEW COMMENT] The note about the color of the raceway has changed in this second submission. From some research it appears that "Senergy" is a type of EIFS and that "Parchment" is a color for that EFIS, which appears to be tan. 11342" may be associated with the color, or an EFIS wall type, but I was unable to confirm either. If the existing wall is a Synergy EFIS Parchment colored wall then update the note for the raceway, in the Side View, to state "ALUM. FABRICATED RACEWAY PAINTED TO MATCH EXISTING SYNERGY EFIS PARCHEMENT WALL." If 342 is the parchment color number, or a type of EFIS, than that can be included in the note a well. If the existing wall is not a Synergy EFIS Parchment colored wall please clarify why this information was added to the note. Please respond by email within 15 days of the date of this letter indicating whether you will or will not proceed with these revisions. Your decision to make the revisions will suspend the 60 -day review period associated with your original submittal. If you choose to complete the revisions, please email the revised drawings to me.
