Pursuant to the following waiver, the Board of County Supervisors of
Albemarle County, Virginia, met in special session at 9:00. A.M. on this date
in the Board Room, County Office Building, with the following members present:
Eessrsk E. N. Garnett, Donald Carroll, Gordon L. Wheeler, Lloyd f. Wood, Jr.
and It. A. Yancey.
Absent: ~ Mr. Joseph E. Gibson.
Officers Present: County Executive.
We, the undersigned, members of the Board of County Supervisors of
Albemarle Cotuuty, Virginia, do hereby waive notice and special
service thereof, of a meeting called for 9:00 A.E; on the 29th day
of June, 1970, to be held in the Board BRoom Of the County Office
Building for the purpose of considering group life insurance for

be appointed to study the matter thoroughly before any change is made. ~r.
Wood expressed a desire to increase insurance and also take care of the older
employees. ~Lr. Garnett stated that he sees the County Executive's point but
ws~uts the Board to be satisfied.
On motion by Mr. Wheeler, seconded 'by Mr. Yancey, it was unanimously
i~ESOLVED that resolution adopted by the Board of County Supervisors of Albemarle
County, Virginia, on May 21, 1970, requesting approval of the Board of Trustees
of the Virginia Supplemental Retirement System for participation of regularly
employed full time employees of the County of Albemarle under the Group Life
Insurance program, effective July 1, 1970, be and the same is hereby res. cinded;
and F~RT~ RESOL~ that the present group plan carried with Phoenix Mutual Life
Insurance Company be continued.
On motion by Mr. Wheeler, seconded by ~r. ~food, and tuuanimous!y carried, it
was further ordered that the Chairman appoint a committee consisting of one
Board member~ two County employees and two County citizens with insura~ace know-
ledge and e~-periance, along with the County Executive a.ud County Attorney as
ex-officio members, to make a thorough study of group life insurance for County
employees, to report back to this Board at the earliest possible date. The
Chairman appointed M~. Joseph E. Gibson, Mr. Ray B. Jones, Mrs. June T. Moon~
~r. Charles Long and ~. Landon Birckhead to such co~mmittee with Mr. T. ~.
Batchetor, Jr. and Mr. D. B. Marshall as ex-officio members.
The County Executive advised that he had employed l~r. James Ritchie to
succeed Mrs. Virginia Marks as Welfare Superintendent upon her retirement. He
stated that this employment was done with approval of the ~felfare Board of which
Mr. Wheeler is a member. This action ~11 have to be ratified by the Board at
its regular July meeting.
Mr. Garnett sub, mitred communication from Mr. Ben Kent of the Daily ~rogress
and asked the Clerk to acknowledge same with advm .e that the matter is being
referred to the County Attorney for analysis and report at the regular July
meeting.
On motion, the meeting was adjourned.
