Wood expressed a desire to increase insurance and also take care of the older
employees. Mr. Garnett stated that he sees the County Executive's Point but
wants the Board to be satisfied.
On motion by Mr. V~neeler, seconded by Ny. Yancey, it was unanimously
RESOLVED that resolution adopted by the Board of County SMpervisors of Albemarle
County, Virginia~ on May 21, 1970, requesting approval of the Board of Trustees
of the Virginia Supplemental i~etirement System for participation of regularly
employed full time employees of the County of Albemarle under the Group Life
Insurance program, effective July l, 1970, be and the same is hereby rescinded;
and ~RT~ RESOLVA~D that the present group plan carried with Phoenix Mutual Life
Insurance Company be continued.
On motion by ~. ~heeler, seconded by Mr. Wood, and unanimously carried~ it
yeas further ordered that the Chairman appoint a co~nittee consisting of one
Board member, two County employees and two County citizens v~th insurance know-
ledge and experience, along with the COunty Executive a~ud County Attorney as
ex-officio members~ to make a thorough study of group life insurance for County
employees, to report back to this Board at the earliest possible date. The
Chairman appointed Er. Joseph E. Gibson, Mr. t{ay B. Jones, ~s. June T. Moon,
Mr. Charles Long and I~r. Landon Birckhead to such committee with Mr. T. M.
Batchelor~ Jr. and Mr. D. B. Marshall as ex-officio members.
The County Executive advised that he had employed ]'~r. James Ritchie to
succeed Mrs. Virginia Marks as Welfare Superintendent upon her retirement. He
stated that this employment was done with approval of the Welfare Board of which
Mr. Wheeler is a member. This action will have to be ratified by the Board at
its regular July meeting.
Mr. Garnett submitted communication from Mr. Ben Kent of the Daily Progress
and asked the Clerk to acknowledge same with advice that the matter is being
referred to the County Attorney for analysis and report at the regular July
meeting.

~eeting scheduled for 9:00 A.M. on July 6~ ~970, to hold public hearing on
application of Ear!ysvi!ie Ruritan Club for temporary special permit to locate
a circus on land behind the Eariysvilte Post Office was cancelled due to the fact
that ssid Club cmucetled its contract with the circus company.
