AS REQUESTED BY THE BOARD AT ITS LAST REGULAR MEETING, MR. A. S. BROWN~ RESIDENT
HIGHWAY ENGINEER, PRESENTED PLANS, PROFILES AND COST ESTIMATES IN CONNECTION WITH THE COM-
PLETION OF ROUTE 6~1 TO CONNECT WITH ROUTE ?77o MR. BROWN EXPLAINED THAT IT WAS ESTIMATED
THAT THE COMPLETION OF THE .6 MILE INVOLVED WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY ~28,000o00 AMD THE
RESULTS WOULD BE UNDESIRABLE IN THAT THERE WOULD BE AN 1~ GRADE OVER THE MOUNTAIN. COM-
MUNICATION WAS RECEIVED FROM MR. H. D. GIBSON, ORIGINAL PETITIONER IN THIS INSTANCE~
ADVISING THAT THE PETITIONERS ARE SATISFIED WITH THE WORK WHICH HAS BEEN DONE ON THIS ROAD..
MR. JOHN BILLER~ PRINCIPAL OF STGNY POINT SCHOOL, URGED THAT THE ROAD BE COMPLETED. HE
STATED THAT BUS TRAVEL WOULD BE DECREASED AND CITE~ THE TIME PUPILS WERE AWAY FROM HOME DUE
TO THE EXTENSIVE MILEAGE TRAVELED TO AND FROM SCHOOL. AFTER CONSIDERABLE DISCUSSION OF THIS
MATTER~ THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS OFFERED BY MR. THRAVES, SECONDED BY MR. PALMER~ AND
UNANIMOdSLY ADOPTED:
WHEREAS, ON DECEMBER 17, 196~, THIS BOARD ADOPTED RESOLUTION REQUESTING
THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS TO COMPLETE THE CONNECTION OF ROUTE 6~1
WITH ROUTE 777 AS FUNDS BECOME AVAILABLE; AND
WHEREAS, THiS PROdECT HAS BEEN UNDER S~UDY FOR THE PA~ SEVERAL MONTHS
AND IT HAS NOW BEEN DETERMINED THAT THE COMPLETION OF SAID PROdEOT WOULD NOT BE
ECONOMICALLY FEASIBLE AND~ FURTHER~ THAT THE CONSTRUCTION OF SUCH ROAD WOULD
INVOLVE AN 18~ GRADE WHICH IS HIGHLY UNDESIRABLE;
