CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TO GIVE STUDY TO THE NEED FOR A VOCATIONAL AND/ OR
TECHNICAL COLLEGE IN THIS AREA; AND
WHEREAS~ SAI~ CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HAS CONDUCTED AND COMPLETED SURVEY
OF SUCH NEED, WHICH SURVEY INDICATED THAT MORE THAN FOUR THOUSAND TRAINED
PERSONNEL WILL BE ADDED OR REPLACED BY EXISTING INDUSTRIES AND BUSINESSES
WITHIN THE NEXT FIVE YEARS~ AND FURTHER INDICATED THAT MORE THAN ONE THOUSAND
STUDENTS WOULD DESIRE TO RECEIVE ADDITIONAL EDUCATION OR TECHNICAL TRAINING

RESOLVED, THAT THE APPLICATION OF THE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD TO THE
STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF VIRGINIA FOR A LOAN OF ~?~,500.00 FROM THE
LITERARY FUND ~s HEREBY APPROVED, AND AUTHORITY IS HEREBY GRANTED THE SAID
BOARD:
COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD TO BORROW THE SAID
AMOUNT FOR THE PURPOSE SET OUT IN SAID APPLICATION.
THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS FOR SAID COUNTY WILL EACH YEAR DURING THE
LIFE OF THIS LOAN~ AT THE TIME THEY FIX THE REGULAR LEVtES~ FIX A RATE OF
LEVY FOR SCHOOLS OR MAKE A CASH APPROPRIATION SUFFICIENT FOR OPERATION
EXPENSES AND TO PAY THIS LOAN IN ANNUAL INSTALLMENTS AND THE INTEREST
THEREON~ AS REQUIRED BY LAW REGULATING LOANS FROM THE LITERARY FUND.
THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS ALSO RECEIVED FROM THE ALBEMARLE COUNTY SCHOOL

COMMISSION~ DISCUSSED WITH THE BOARD THE LANDSCAPING OF THE COURT HOUSE GROUNDS. MR.
THACKER R~.FERRED TO THE LANDSCAPING PLAN PREPARED BY THE COUNTY IN 1963 BY UOHNSON~
CRAVEN AND GIBSON WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF MR. YALDEN HOPKINS. MR. THACKER INFORMED THE
BEARD THAT THE BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION AND SEVERAL GARDEN CLUBS WERE INTERESTED tN
PROVIDING THE PLANTING AS SHOWN ON THE PLAN. HE REQUESTED THE BOARD TO PROVIDE SUF-
FICIENT FUNDS TO RE-CONSTRUCT THE WALK AND STEPS AS SHOWN ON TH/ PLAN. THE BOARD DIS-
CUSSED THE MATTER IN GENERAL AND UPON MOTION OF MR. PALMER~ SECONDED BY MR. PAULETT~
THE PLAN AS PRESENTED WAS .AIX~PTED AS THE OFFICIAL LANDSCAPING PLAN FOR THE COURT HOUSE
GROUNDS WITH ONE EXCEPTION. THE PLAN WOULD NOT DISTBRB THE EXISTING TREE BOX ON THE
LEFT SIDE OF THE ENTRANCE STEPS TO THE CIRCUIT COURT HOUSE. MR. THACKER EXPRESSED HIS
APPRECIATION TO THE BOARD FOR THEIR ASSISTANCE.
