The County Executive advised that in accordance with a request ~f the Board of some time ago
He had met with the Soil Conserva~i6~<~Service and other interested parties relative to the construction
of a dam on Beaver Creek. He stated that as per instructions from the Board, he had arrived at a storage
!figure of 500,000,000 gallon~ as being the amount ~hich should be stored for future economic growth of
Ithe county. Mr. John Smart of the Soil Conservation Service and Mr. C. ~. Garnett~ Sr., addressed the
Board with respect to the feasibility of constructing a dam to contain 500,000,000 ~allons of water. The
explained the matter of the County's participation in the project over and above the amount estimated to
be necessary for soil conservation and flood control. ~The Commonwealth's Attorney explained that he was
of the opinion that the statutes did not permit the county to participate in a project of this nature
over and above the requirements for soil conservation and flood control. Considerable discussion was
lgiven to the matter and it was the sense of the meeting that the County Executive advise the Crozet WaSer
Committee of the proposed project and that said committee be requested to attend the November meeting of
tthe Board to ascertain if certain means could be found by ~hich the White Hall Crozet Sanitary District
could finance such a project.' Also, the Com~onwealth's Attorney was requested to give further stndy, as
i tc the legal aspects of the matter and to report his findings to the Board.
