HomeMy WebLinkAbout1951-05-25 An adjottrned meeting of the Board of C6unty Supervisors was held in the Cot~rt~1 House at S:O0 P.M. on ~v 25, 1951. Present: ~essrs. C. Purcell McCue, E. J.. Ballard, Henry Ghiles, C. R. Dorrier, and J. W. Williamsi Absent: Mr. W. W. Wood. Officers present: County Executive and Commonwealth's~Attorney. The Chairman invit&d those present to express themselves on the matter of the A.B.C. license application of Messrs. Noses and james Sandridge to sell beer at their establishment at Crozet, Virginia Those opposing the issuance of the license to the applicants were represented by Messrs. E. H. Copenhaver and Harry Michael, Attorneys. In addition, Messrs. A. Wo Burfood, Ray W. Warrick, Percy and Abell, Waverly Thurston, Chesley A. Haden, Starkweather,/Clar~ Wade expressed their opposition to the issuance of an A.B.C. license to the applicants. A resolution was also received from the Crozet Women's ClUb in opposition to the issuance of this licanse. Mr. Eo H. Bain spoke on behalf of a group of people present expressing the d~sire to see no action taken on behalf of the Board and their desire to see the application given due consideration by the Vi~rginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Board. In addition, Nessrso Hugh Flan~nagan, Walker Williams, Attorney, George Gilmer, Attorney, R. H. Beitzel, and ~. B. Christian expressed the d~mire to see no action taken upon this application on the part of the Board of County Supervisors of Albemarle County. A lengthy discussion of this matter followed but no action was t~ken on this matter. Comm~uication~was received from Wiley and Nilson regarding the water pipe line to the consoli- dated high school. Wiley and Wilson suggested that inasmuch as they have not been able to secure any information from the State Highway Department regarding its plans for the improvement of Route 2.9, they suggested that we tentatively locate a right of way for the pipe line on private property just ou~ of the State Highway right of way aud sub, it this location to the Highway Department for approval before actmally proceding with constrUction~ and suggested that this procedure might bring the matter to more serious consideration by the Nighway Department in view o£ the possible cost to the Dep~tment for re- loc~tion of the water line if it is constructed prior to widening of Route 29. ~. Robinson recommended that this procedure be followed and on motion of Mr. Ballard, seconded by ~. Chiles, he was instructed to request Wiley and Wilson to proceed with this matter aw above outlined~ The matter of improving the Crozet Sanitary District water supply as recommended by Wiley and Wilson was presented to the Board but warn 'tabled until the me~bers have time to digest the recommendatio~ more fully ~ Upon motion, the meeting adjourned.
