December 13, 1955 P~s~nt to the following waiver, the members of the Board of County Supervisors of Albemarle County, Virginia, met in special session on this date in the County Office Building, CharlOttesville, Virginia, at 7:00 PoM. with the following members present: ~essrs. H. Ashby Harris, E. H. Bain, Edward L~ Smith, John W~ Williams and Wo W. Wood. We, the ~udersigned, members of the Board of Cowry Supervisors of Albemarle County, Virginia, hereby waive notice, and special service thereof~ of a meeting to be held at 7:00 P.No on the thirteenth day of Becember, 1955, in the County Office Building, Charlottesville, Virginia, for the p~pose of considering matters pertaining to the Constitutional Amendment as outlined by the Gray Commission, and we do hereby con~ sent to the transaction of any a~ all business and the taking of such action at said meeting upon the matter hereinabove mentioned as may be lawf~, incident and necessary E .~/H ~ ~in C. Williams offered the following resolution which was seconded by Mr. W. Wo Wood, unanimously carried and ordered forwarded to all Clerks of the Boards of Supervisors and City Co~cils in the State, to the Governor of Virginia, to the Chairman of the Gray Co~ission, and to ~ Dabney S. Lancaster: %~S, the Supreme Co~t of the United States in the cases involving segregation in the public schools entered decrees which endangered not only the public schools themselves but also the very existence of th$ states~ and 456 ~EREAS, this threat to our public schools and to our State called for statesmanshiptand courage of the highest degree both on the part of the Governor of this Commonwealth and the General ~ssembly which test has been met unflinchingly an8 the means presented to the electors whereby the public school system can be preserved and the existence of the supremacy of the State continued; and ~HEREAS, it is the opinion of this Board that the best way to preserve th~ public schoolssystem is to vote for the Constitutional Amendment as outlined by the Gray Commission, NOW, THER. EFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Albemarle County Board of Super- visors does hereby go on record favoring the Amendment of Section 1Z~l:[of the Con- stitution of Virginia and do hereby urge the citizens of Albemarle County to vote for the Amendment in order to preserve the public school system and to avoid en- forced integrationl On motion, the meeting adjourned.
