Virginia, was held at the Office Building of said County on 'the 19th Day of May,' 1943.
Present: Messrs. E. J. Ballard, P.. H. Gentry, H. Ashby Harris, and C. Purcell
McCue, and Dr. L. G. Roberts.
Absent: Mr. J. M. Fray.
Officers present: County Executive and Sheriff.
Minutes of the meeting of April 21,.1943, were read and approved.
Communications were received from Mr. George Gilmer, Attorney, concerning the
erroneous assessment of certain lands in Albemarle County, Upon motion, duly made and
seconded, the following resolution was unanimously adopted:
WHEREAS, Mr. George Gi~mer, Attorney, who has been em~
ployed to collect delinquent land taxes, has recommended that the
following parcels of land be deleted from the County's Tax Rolls
due to the fact that, in his opinion, the land is erroneously

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of County
Supervisors of Albemarle County, Virginia, that ~hese parcels be
considered as erroneous assessments on the basis of Mr. Gilmer's
report and no further efforts be made to collect the taxes on
same ~
Mrs~ Margaret T. Maupin, having expressed to the Board the desire of being re~
lieved of her duties as Clerk of the Board, it b~ame necessary to elect someone to serve
a~ ~lerk~
Purcell McCue hominated Miss June'E. Thomas az Clerk of the Board.
There being no further nominations, Miss Thomas was unanimously elected.
The Boards attention was called to the fact that the terms of office of Mr.
L~ C. Huff and Mr. Allen Randolph as members of the Board of Public Welfare would expire
on June 30, 1943'~ Mr~ C. Purcell McCue nominated Mr. Huff and Mr. Randolph to succeed
themselves as mSmbers of the Board of Public Welfare for a term of two years.~ There
being no further nominations, Mr. Huff and Mr. Randoloh were unanimously appointed.

Mr.. H~ A. Haden, Directorof Finance, submitted a statement of the expenses
of the Depa~tment~of Finance for the month of ApriI,.~19~3, one-third of which to be
borne by the State. Upon. motion, duly made and seconded, this statement was e~amined,
v~r~fied, and approved.
Mr. H. A. Haden, Director of Finance, submitted a statement Of expenses of the
Sheriff's Office for the month of April, 1943, two~thirds of which to be borne by the
State. Upoh motion, duly made a~ud seconded, this statement was examined, verified, and
approved.
Statement of the cost of maintenance or.prisoners in the County Jail forthe
month of April, 1943, was submitted. Upon motion, duly.made and seconded, this s~atement
was examined, verified, and approved.
A summary statement of Prisoner~Days served in the County Jail during the
month of April, 1943, was presented, examined, and approved.
A claim,~amounting to $4.50, of Dr. Ric_hard T~ Ergenbright, Jail~Physician,
was presented, examined, a~d approved for ~ayment.
The following Budget ~ the Joint Health Department for the year beginning
July l, 1943~ was presented and approved:

A letter/from the Peoples National Bank requesting permission to take down
certain securities which it has deposited in Escrow to protect the County Deposits.
Upon motion, duly made and seconded, the following resolution was unanimously adopted:
WHEREAS, the deposits at the Peoples National Bank at this
season $f the year are at a minimum, and
WHEREAS, the Peoples National Bank has reguested P~r~ion to take
down certain securities held by the National Bank and TrUst Company,
in Escrow to protect the County's Deposits in the Peoples National ~
Bank,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,. by the Board of County Super-
visors of Albemart~ Co~unty~, Virginia, that the Nat~iOnal. Ba~.and~Tr~ st-Company
be, and is hereby authorized to releas~ the following securities:
$ 5,0(ND State of Mississippi 3~% Bonds due Feb. 1, 194~.
$10~000 State of Tennessee,~Funding 6% Bonds due July 1, 1943.
Mr. J. Emmett Gleason, Mayor of the City of Charlottesville, amd Mr. Webb
Midyette, Supervising Game Warden, appeared to request this-Board to join with the City
of Charlottesville and the State Game Co~mission in the employment of an assistant Game
Warden for Albemarle and Charlottesville. Upon motion duly made and seconded, the matter
was referred to a committee composed of Mr. Gleason, Mr. Midyette, and the County
Executive~ to investigate and report back at the next .meeting of this Board.
A communication was received from Mr. Co So Mullen, Chief Engineer of the
Department of Highways, dated May 17, 1943~ advising that that portion of Route 230 from
the Intersection of }{cute 29 to the beginning of }{cute 635 near Bat~sville, a distance of
5.11 miles, would be deleted from the Primary System of Highways and transferred to the
Secondary System of Highways effective July 1, 1943.
A proposal of T. Coleman Andrews and Company to audit the accounts and records
of the County, including those of the School Board and the Nelfare Board, for the year
ending June 30, 1943, for the sum of $560.00 was presented, and upon motion, duly made and
seconded, was accepted.
Communications were received from Mr~ C. H. Shapleigh concerning erroneous
assessment of certain lands in Albemarle County, Upon motion, duly made and seconded,
the fol!owin~ resolution was unanimously adopted:
WHEREAS, Mr. C. Ho Shapleigh, who has been employed
a tax mmp of Albemarle County, which mapwill show the location~of
each tract of land in the County, haa recommended that the following
~arc~ls of laud be deleted from ~he ~ountY~s'TaxRolls due to the
fact, that in his opinion, the land ~s~erroneouslY assessed:
