Virginia, was held at the Office Building of said County on th~ !6th Day of Ju~~, '1943.
Present: Messrso E. J. Ballard, P. H. Gentry, H. Ashby Harris, and C. Purcell
McCue, and Dr. L. Go Roberts.
Absent: Mr. J. M. Fray.
Officers present: County Executive and Sheriff.
Minutes of the meeting of May 19, 1943, were read and approved.
Dr. Roberts and the County E~ecutive were instructed to confer with the Highway
Commissioner concerning the transfer of that portion of Route 230 from Batesville to the
Crossroads to the Secondary System of Highways.
Communication from Mr. Samuel B. Woods concerning the damage done in this County
to sheep by dogs was .presented and action deferred.
A request was made form~ appropriation of $50. for U~e~of the Local
Upon~motion, duly made and seconded, the following resolution was unanimously adopted:
BE IT RESOLVED~ ~ by the Board of County Supervisors of
Albemarle County, Virginia, that $50 be, and the same is hereby
appropriated~ for the use of the Local U.S.O.

Your Committee wishes to recommend that the Director of
Finance be authorized to ma~e the following inter-fund trans-
fers to cover the Interest due on bonds of the Scottsville and
Samuel Miller Districts owned by other funds for the year
ending June 30, 1943:

Mr. H. A. Haden, Director of Finance, submitted a statement of expenses of
the Department of Finance for the month of May, 1943, one-third of which to be borne
by the State. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, this statement was examined, veri~
lied and approved.
Mr~ H. A. Haden, Director of Finance, submitted a statement of expenses of the
Sheriff's Office for the month of May, 1943, two-thirds of which to be borne by the
State. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, this statement was examined, verified, and
approved°
Statement of the cost of maintenance of prisoners in the County Jail for the
month of May, 1943. was submitted. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, this statement
was examined, verified, and approved.
A summary statement of Prisoner Days served in the County Jail during the
month of Nay, 1943, was p~ented, examined, and approved.
A claim, amounting to $2.75, of Dr. Richard T. Ergenbright, Jail Physician,
was presented, examined, and approved for payment.
Claim of Jeff Thomas, amounting to $1.52, was presented~ It was ordered that
the tax payer ~e~tven credit for the 1931 tax, due to the fact that he had presented a
receipt showing the payment of this 1931 tax~ The County Executive was instructed to
file a claim with the Bonding Company?for the amount of this tax.
The County Executive called the Board~ attention to the fact thmt at times
it was difficult to decide which days of the year should be observed as holidays, ~ud
upon motion~ duly made and seconded~ the following resolution was unanimously ~dopted:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Supervisors of
Albemarle County, Virginia, that the County Offices observe by
closing such Holidays as in the opinion of the Chairman of the
Board and the County Executive, it appears proper.
Communication was received from Mr. George Gilmer~ Attorney~ concerning the
erroneous assessment of certain lands in Albemarle County. Upon motion, duly made and
seconded, the following re~olution was unanimously adopted~
WHE~AS~ Mr. George Gilmer, Attoney,~ r who has been em-
ployed to collect delinquent land tax~s, has-recommended that the
following parcel of land be deleted from the County's Tax Rolls
due to the fact that, in ~opinion, the land im erroneously
assessed:

N0¥4 THEHEFORE~i BE IT 'RESOLVED, by the Board of County
Supervisors of Albemarle County, Virginia, that this parcel be
considered as an~erroneous assessment on the basis of Mr. Gilmer{s
report, and no further efforts be made to collect taxes on same.
A report of L. McCarthy Downs, State Auditor, on audit of the accounts and
records of Jesse B. Wilson, Trial Justice, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1952,
was presented and ordered filed~
Claims against the County amounting to $55~O37.37 were presented, examined, and
allowed and ordered certified to the Director of Finance for payment and charged against
the following funds:
