A regular meeting of the Board of County Supervisors of Albemar~e~County,
Virginia, was held at th~ Office Building of said. County on the 21st day of July, 1943.
Present: Messrs, E. J. Ballard, P. H, Gentry, H. Ashby Harris, and C. Purcell
McCue, and Dr. L. G. Roberts.
Absent: ~2. J. M. Fray.
Officers present: County Executive and Sheriff.
Minutes of the mestir~ Of June 16, 1943, were read and approved.
~rs. Eugene Stillwell presented a claim amounting to $16.00 for chickens ~kilted
by dogs. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, this claim was approved for payment.
Claim of E. L. Bailey for Sheep alleged to have been kill. ed by dogs, was pre-
sented and denied, due to the fact that the game warden did not have an .opportunity to
view the bodies.
Mr. Walker Willimms, Attorney, appeared concerning a road leading Southeast
from Route 6~1. Upoh ~otion, duly-made and seconded, Mr. Williams, the Commonwealth's
Attorney, the Resident Engineer, and the County Executive were requested to view the
road and report back at~ the next regular meeting.
~ir. H. A. Haden, Director of Finance, submitted a statement of expenses of
the Department of Finance for the month of June, 1943, one-third of which to be borne
by the State. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, this statement was examined, verified
and approved.
Mr. H. A. Haden, Director of Finance, submitted a statement of expenses of the
Sheriff's Office for the month of gun~, ~9~3, two-thirds of which to be borne by the
State. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, this statement was ~xamined, verified, and
approved.
S~atement of the cost of maintenance of prisoners in the County Jail for the
month of June, 1943, was submitted. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, this statement
was examined, verified, and approved.
A s~Jmary statement of Prisoner Days served, in the County Jail during the
month of June, 1943, was presented, examin'e~ and approved.
A c~aim~ amounting to $2[25, of Dr. Richard T. Erge~bright, Jail Physician,
was presented, examined, and approved for payment.
A comm~micati0n was presented from Mr. C. Venable Minor, Examiner of Records,
concerning his compensation for his services in connection with the assessing, sffidusiAries
for the County.
Upon motion, duly made and seconded, ~esSalary of the Examiner of Records was
fixed at $20.00 per annum.
The County Executive called .the Board's attention to the fact that it was
necessary to ~appropriate a fund to purchase an automobile and to cover the operating
expenses of the same, to be used by the Department of Public Welfare.
The following resolution was adopted by the following recorded vote: Ayes:

hereby appropriated, to provide purchase price and operating
expenses of an automobile for the Departm. ent of Public ~'
An aE~ement Providing for the rental of Rooms 112 and 114 in the County Office
Building t0 the Virginia Parole Board for $300.00 per annum was presented, and the
Chairman and Clerk of the Board were ~eqUested-.~to authorize the same in the name of and
on the behalf of this Board.
The following resolution was unanimously adopted:

deposited in. Escr~v, securities with a value of $6%,000.00 to pro-
tect the C&unty's deposits in said bank, and
NHE~S, the'peoples National Bank has requested per-
mission to takedown certain securities,

The following resolution was unanimously adopted:

Upon receipt from the Citizens Bank and Trust Company of the fol-
lowing securities:
U.S. Treasury 2~-% Bonds, 1949-1953 $5,000.00.
The following resolution was unanimously adopted:
BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of County Supervisors
of Albemarle County, Virginia, that each county employee, ex-
cept those of the Department of Education and Members of this
Board, be paid five per cent of the earnings of each du~ing
the year ending June 30, 1943, as adjusted compensation.
BE iT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the five per cent
adjusted compensation in the cease of the Sheriff and his
Deputies should apply only to the six months ending December
31, 194~,~ each one whose salary was increased as of January 1,
1943.
The Board's attention was called to the fact that the County %-H Club had
purchased certain equipment for the Camp located near Free Union, and on account of the
present emergency had been unable to pay for it.
Upon motion, duly made and seconded, an appropriation of $151.52 to pay the
balance on equipment for the 4-H Club was made. by.the following recorded vote:

A commonication from Lt. Col. Staige D. Blackford, containing the Financial
Statement of the Eighth Evacuation Hospital Unit was. presented and read.

The following resolution was unanimously adopted:

The County Executive recommended appointment of Mrs. Aline Stevens, effective
August 1, at the salary of $100.00 per month. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, Mrs.
Stevens was appointed in accordance with the County Executive's recommendation.
Communication from Mr. G. Stuart Hamm, enclosing a check f~r.$I7.78 representing
the amount of claim against the Bonding Company previously authorized, was presented.
Claims against the County amounting to $33,652~12 were presented, e~amined, and
allowed and ordered certified to the Director of Finance for payment and charged against
the following funds:
