~ regular meeting of the Board of County SuperVisors of Albemarle County,
Virginia, was held at the Office Building of said County on the 18th day of August, 19%3.
Present: Messrs. E. J. Ballard~ P. H. Gentry, H. Ashby Harris, and C. Purcell
NcCue~ and Dr. L. G. Roberts.
Absent: Er. J. Mo Fray~
Officers p~esent: County Executive and Sheriff.
Minutes of the meeting of' July ~lst, 1943, were read and approved.
The following claims against the Dog Fund were approved for payment:
(a.) B. N. Carvalho ~ $132.00.
(b.) Mrs. Leonard Hartman - $6.00.
(c.) R. L~ Wheeler ~ $7.20.
~.4r. Walker Williams, Attorney, appeared and requested that the road leading to the
property ofWitlie Rogers and Luther Morris be improved.
Mr. E. V. Walker~ ~ttorney of the Commonwealth, advised the Board that the question
of a road in this vicinity was a civil matter mud that in his'opinion, Mr. Williams should
handle the matter accordingly.
Upon motion, duly made and seconded, the Report of the 7iewers, .dated April 29,
1941~ and spread as a part of the minutes &f May 21, 1941, was accepted and their~re~o~'-
mendations confirmed by the following recorded Fete: Aye's. Mr. E. J. Bal!ard,
!Gentry, ~r. H. Ashby Harris, ~r~ C. Purcell McCue, and Dr. L. G. Roberts) Noes: None.
Mr. H. A. Naden, Director of Finance, submitted a statement of expenses of the
iDepartment of Finance for the month of July, 19~3, one-third of which to be borne by the
State. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, this statement was examined~ verified mud
~approved.
~r. H. A. Haden~ Director of Finance,~submitted a statement of expenses of the
Sheriff's Office for the month of JulyS' 1943, t~-thirds of which to be borne by the State.
Upon motion~ dul~ made and seconded, this statement was examinee, verified~ and approved.
Statement of the Cost of maintenance of prisoners in the County Jail for the
!month of July~ !9~3, was submitted. Upon motion, duly made and seconded~ this statement
was examined, verified and aporoved.
A summary statement of Prisoner Days served in the County Jail during the month
of July, 19~3~ was presented, examined, and approved.
A claim, amounting to ~4.00, of Dr. Richard T. Ergenbright, Jail Physician~ was
)resented~ examined, and approved for pa~nent.
The question of the continued employment of a Deputy Sheriff in the Sheriff's
)ffice at night was ~iscussed, The Sheriff ~xpressed the opinion that his regular force
could handle the entire situ&tion at this time.
Upon motion~ duly made and seconded, it was ordered that the services of the night
)eputy be discontinued after October 30~ 19~.
The following reports were presented and ordered filed:
a. County Executive.
b. Game Warden.
c. Board of Equalization.
d. University of Virginia Hospital.
The County Executive recommended the appointment of Miss Mary Roselle Fau!coner
nd Miss Sarah Harris as Case Workers in the Department of Public Welfare, effective
u]$~ !9~ 19~3 smd July 8, 1943 respectively, at a salary of $105.00 per month.
Uoon motion, duty made and seconded, Miss Faulconer~and Miss Harris were ap~
ointed.
It was brought to the attention of the Board that the tax of ~ J. Thornton had
Nee L. Carver was a duplicate assessment.
Upon motion, duly made and seconded, it was ordered the $5.15 be refUnded to Mrs.
Carver to cover the amount of the duplicate ~ax~:
It was brought to the attention of the Beard that the Local Company of the Virginia
Reserve Nilitia would have certain expenses in addition to the uniforms~ and therefore it
was ordered that the balance of the appropriation made on Narch 17, 19A3, would be turned
o~er to the Company for its necessary expenses.
Communication from Niss Bertha ~errill Shapleigh, Corresponding Secretary of the
Business and Professional Nomen~s ~Club was presented~ and the County Executive was instructed
to advise this Club that due consideration ~ould be given to its request at the proper time.
The Board attention was called to the fact that the Accounting Nachine used in
the Deoartment of Finance in preparation of tax books and tax tickets was beyond repair.
Upon motion, duly made and seconded, the following resolution was adopted~ the

such amount as will be necessar~ to cove~ the cost of the purchase
of an Accounting Nachine for the Department of Finance.
Nr. P. H. Gentry, Temporary Chairman, was ordered to sign a contract~with the
Virginia Parole Board for the rental of certain space in the County Office Building, intbhe
name of and on behalf of this Board.
Claims against the County amounting to $12,702.22 were presented, examined, and
allowed and ordered certified to the Director of Finance for payment and charged against
the following
General Fund
School Fund
Dog Tax Fund
Crozet Fire District Fund
National Defense Training ~d
Commonwealth of Va. Current Credit Account
Upon motion, the meeting was adjourned.
