appropriate resolution in rewpect to the memory of the late Dr. L. G. Roberts, and submit
the same to the Board at the Regular November, !94$, Meeting.
Upon motion, the meeting adjourned.
A regular meeting of the Board of County Supervisors of Albemarle County, Virginia~
was held at the Office Building of said County on the 15th day of November, 1944.
Present: Mr. P. H. Gentry, and Messrs. E. J. Ballard, T. E. Bruce, C. Purcell
EcCue, and W. W. Mood.
Absent: None..
Officers present: Connty Executive, Commonwealth's Attorney, and Sheriff.
Ninutes of the meetings of October 18t~, 1944 and November l, 1944~were read and
approved.
The following reports were presented and ordered filed:
(a) County Executive.
(b) University of Virginia Hospital.
(c) Game Warden.
(d) Board of Equalization.
(e) District Rome Board.
Er~-.Hi~:A.~Had~M;~nect~ of Finance, submitted a Statement of Expenses of the
Department of Finance fon the ~onth of October~ 1954, one-third of which to be borne by the
State. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, this Statement was examined, verified, and ap-
proved.
Mr. H. A. Haden, Director of Finance, submitted a Statement of Expenses of the
Sheriff's Office for the month of October, 1944, two-thirds of which to be borne by the State.
Upon motion, duly made and seconded, this Statement ~as examined, verified, and approved.
A Statements of the Oost of Eaintenance of Prisdners confined in the-County Jail
during the ~nt$ of 0~tober, 1944, was submitted. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, this
~tatement was examined, verified and~approved.
A Summary Statement of Prisoner Days served in the County Jail during the month of
~c~ber, 1944, was submitted. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, this Statement was exmmin~d,
~erified, and approved.
On motion, duly made and seconded, the following resolution was adopted:
WHEBEAS, the Board of County Supervisors of Albemarle County,
Virginia, desires officially to pay tribute and~respect to the memory
and accomplishments~of the late Dr. Louis Garrard Roberts, a member of
this Board from Jandary 1st, 1~3~, and its Chairman from January 1st,
1~44, until his death on October 26th, 1~44:

T~at in the death of Dr~ ~oberts the members of this Board
have lost a courteous and C~nsiderate associate; his profession, a
tireless and a useful member; his commUnity, a loyal and devoted friedn;
the public schools~ an earnest and an ardent advocate; and the County
and State, an energetic and efficient public servant, an honored and
respected citizen.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the sympathy of the members of
this~ Board be extef~ded tn

copy be spread upon the Ninutes of this Meeting of
this Board.
A Communication was received from Er. George Gilmer, Attorney, concerning the
erroneous assessment of certain land in Albemarle County, Upon motion, duly made and seconde
the following Resolution was unanimously adopted.
WHEREAS, Mr. George Gilmer, Attorney, who has been em-
ployed to collect delinqment land taxes, has recom~ended that the
following parcels of land be deleted from the Oo'Unty's Tax Bolls
due to the fact that in his opinion the land is erroneously asessed:

NON, THEREFORE~ BE iT RE$OL%~D by the Bdkrd of County
Supervisors of Albemarle County, Virginia, that these parcels be
considered as erroneous assessments on the b~sis of Er. Gilmer's
report and no further efforts~bemade to collect the taxe~ on same.
Communication was received fro~ Mr. Henry Bush requesting this Board reco~nend
to the Federal authorities t~t he receive Federal assistance in repairing the road to his
h~me which was d~ed Aircraft Narning Service.
Due to lack of sufficient information, the matter was referred to the next meeting.
The following resolution was unanimously adopted:
NHEREAS, pursuant to a resolution of this Board adopted at
its regular September, 1954, ~eeting, the Conm~onwealth's Attorney of
the County has prepared and submitted to the ~oard new Escrow Agree-
ments, all dated November l~th, 19¢~ between the Director of Finance,
the Board of County Supervisors, The Peoples National Bank, the National
B~nk and Trust Company, as depositories, and the National Bank and Trust
Comply and The Peoples National Bank as Escrow Agents, respectively;
BE IT'RESOLVED that the said Agreements be and they are
hereby approved as to both form a~d substance, and the Chairman of this
Board~is authorized and directed to execute, in triplicate~ the aforesaid
Agreements on behalf of this Board, and the Clerk of th~s Board is
directed to affix~thereto ~ud attest the se~l of this Board.
The Board's attentionwas c~lled tO'the fact that a vacancy exists on the ~elfare
Board due to the death of Dr. Roberts. Upon motion duly made and seconded, ~r. C Purcell
McCue ...... was appointed to fillthe unexpired term of Dr. Roberts as a member of the Board
of Public Welfare of this County which term expires June ~ ,

~ Claims against the County amo~unting to $74,1~6~ were presented, ex~mi~d, and
allowed and ordered certified tothe Director of Finance for payment and charged against
the following funds:
