$50~00 by,ir. J. C. ~orris, and if Ere Ballard agreed to proceed with the sale.
A communication was received from To E. Ctar~ concerning a part-time game warden
and was ordered filed.
Upon motion made by Mr. We W. Wood and secondea by Nro C. Purcell ~cCue, the
budget was ammended so as to provide $110.O0 per month for Mrs. Helen Humbert as Deputy to
Mrs~ Eva ~. Maupin~
Upon motion made by Mr. Henry Chiles and seconded by Mr. C~ Purcell,McCue, the
budget was also ammended so as to provide the Welfare Department with an additional $500.00
to cover the cost of extra office help.

A regular meeting of the Board of County Supervisors of Albemarle County, Virginia~
was held at the Office Building of said County on the 16th day of January, 1946.
Present: Messrs. P. H. Gentry, E. J. Batlard, T. E. Bruce, Henry Chiles, C. Pur-
cell McCue, and W. W. Wood.
Absent: None
Officers present: County Executive, Commonwealth's Attorney, and Sheriff.
Mr. T. E. Bruce nominated Mr. P. H. Gentry as Chairman for the year 1946, which
nomination was seconded by Mr. Henry Chiles. There being no further nominations, Mr. Gentry
was unanimously elected~
Mr. W. ~. Wood nominated ~rs. June T. Via as Clerk of the Board, which nomination
was seconded by Mr. T. E. Bruce. There b~ing no further nominations, Mrs. Via was unanimousl[
elected.
Mr. Ballard made a motion to re-elect the same Equalization Board consisting of
~r. C. M. Garnett, Mr. J. B. Kegley, and ~r. P. C. ~inor. There being no further nominations
Mr. Garnett, Mr. Kegley, and Mr. Minor were unanimously elected.
Mr. Gentry appointed the following to serve on the Finance Committee: 'Mri Henry
Chiles, Mr. C. Purcell NcCue, and Mr. N. N. Need.
Minutes of the meeting of December 19, 1945 were read and approved.
Mr. Cockrell introduced Mr. Julian Thomas, Assistant Game War~en, whom he and ~ro
Berlin Eye of the Forest Service ha~ employed. A committee consisting of Mr. MCCue and ~r.
Bruce wam~appointed to meet with Mr. Thomas, Mr. Cockrell, Mr. Eye, and Mr. Fife for the
~urpose of outlining Mr. Thomas~ work.
Col. Owen appeared and requested that approximately .6 mi. of Route 631 at the

Nr~ F. E. Paulett appeared and requested the Board to request the Department of
Highways to take approximately ~00 feet of road about .75 mi. no~th of the North Corporate
line of Scottsville off of Route 20 into the Secondary System° Upon motion, duly made and
seconded, the following resolution was unanimously adopted:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Supervisors of Albe-
marie County, Virginia, that the State Department of Highwmys be, and
is hereby requested to take into the Secondary System of Highways
approximately 1200 ft. of road off of Route 20 and approximately
975 of a mile north of the North Corporate line of Scott~ville.
Mr. H. G. Cockrell called the Board's attention to several requests which had been
received to black-top the road leading from Shadwell to the NiltSn Airport. Action on this
matter was deferred until the regular Spring Road Meeting.
A petition was presented by~r. J. W. Hildebrand requesting that the Road extending
from Rio Mills to the Earlysville Road, and from the Earlysville Road to the Rea's Ford Road,
be taken into the Secondary System. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, th~ following
resolution was unanimouslY adopted:
BE IT RESOLVED bY the Board of County Supervisors of Albe-
marle County, Virginia, .that the State Department of Highways be, and
is hereby requested to take into the Secondary System of Highways
the Road leading from Rio Mills to the Earlysville Road and from the
Earlysvil!e Road to the Rea's Ford Road.
Mr. R. C. Ambler appeared and requested the Board to join with the Department of
Highways in making a public statement concerning the conditions of roads. Upon~motion, duly
made and seconded, this matter was agreed upon and Mr. Ambler was given authority to .ff~?e
public notice on behal£ of the Board also.
The following reports were presented and ordered filed:

(c) Game Warden.
(d) Clerk of the Circuit Court.

Mr. HI G. Cockrell, Director of Finance, submitted a Statement of Expenses of the
Department of Finance for the month of December, 1945, one-third of which to be borne by the
State. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, this Statement was examined, verified, and
approved.
Nr. H. G. Cockrell, Director df Finance, submitted a Statement of Expenses of the
iSheriff's Office for the month of December, 1945, two-thirds of which to be borne by the State.

following resolution was unanimously adopted:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Supervisors of Albe-
marle County that Honorable John S. Battle, Honorable E. O. ~cCue, Jr.,
and Honorable Allen K. ~andolph, be and they are requested to use their
efforts at the 1946 Session of the Legislature to have enacted into
law a bill entitled, "A Bill to amend and re-enact Section Six Hundred
Seventy-three of the Code of Virginia, relating to Loans for the
erection of school houses," in the form in which this Bill has been
approved by Messrs. ~ood, Hoffman,. King & Dawson, Bond Specia!isSs,
and draft of which as been submitted at this meeting of the Board.
Mr. McCue made a motion that a light be installed in front of the Crozet Fire House,
the cost of which to be borne by the County. T$is motion was unanimously adopted.
Communication was received from Wiley and Wilson concerning the Crozet Water System,
and was ordered filed.
It was brought to the attention of the Board that Mrs. Rosa J. Humphries, a Confederate
Widow, died on December 12, 1945 but a request had been received that her check be made payable
to the Hill and Irving Funeral Home to cover her burial expenses. Upon m~tion, duly made
and seconded, the Director of Finance was authorized to make this check payable to Hill and
Irving.
Communication from R. M. Youell, Commissioner of Corrections, was presented and
ordered filed.
Communication was received from Mr. W. E. Radford and ordered filed~
H~e~mo~ion, duly made and seconded, a~d appropriation of $156.00 was made to
~over an increase in salary of two Department of Finance employees from Januaay, 1946 until
July I, 1946.
Upon motion, duly made and seconded, an appropriation of $412.50 was made to cover
the County's share of the salary of ~r. Julian Thomas, Assistant G~me Warden.
Claims agains~ the County amounting to $!06,454,31, were presented, approved, and
allowed for payment, and charged against the following funds:
