RE: ARB-2017-33: Malloy Ford Auto Dealership
Dear Mr. Timmerman,
The Albemarle County Architectural Review Board reviewed the above noted item at its meeting on
Monday, May 15, 2017. The Board, by a vote of 3:0 approved the request, pending staff
administrative approval of the following conditions:
1. The MTLC SMX SLVR metal paneling by Alpolic is acceptable subject to staff approval of the
LRV consistent with AHS. Choose a medium -grade paint color for the rear service buildings so
that they better blend with their natural environment. The current paint color is similar to Pantone
"Cool Gray 6c"; consider Pantone "Cool Gray 8c" or "Cool Gray 9c" as alternatives.
2. Consider alternative truer grey brick color, subject to staff review.
3. Provide the LRV and SRI information of the Alpolic MTLC SMX SLVR for review.
4. Provide on the site plan and architectural drawings the standard mechanical equipment note:
Visibility of all mechanical equipment from the Entrance Corridor shall be eliminated.
5. Only dark bronze or black are appropriate color choices in the Entrance Corridor. Add a note to
the lighting plan which details the color choice for the lighting fixtures and poles.
6. Indicate on the plans whether wall -mounted lights are proposed, and if so, revise the lighting and
architectural plans to reflect this change.
7. Add the standard lighting note to the plan: "Each outdoor luminaire equipped with a lamp that
emits 3,000 or more initial lumens shall be a full cutoff luminaire and shall be arranged or
shielded to reflect light away from adjoining residential districts and away from adjacent roads.
The spillover of lighting from luminaires onto public roads and property in residential or rural
areas zoning districts shall not exceed one half footcandle."
8. Indicate on the plans whether ground -mounted landscape lighting is proposed, and if so, revise
the lighting and architectural plans to reflect this change.
9. Increase the size of the two (2) European Hornbeams located near the service bay entrance to
21/" caliper at planting, minimum.
Please provide:
1. Two full sets of revised drawings addressing each of these conditions. Include updated ARB
revision dates on each dra%A.fing.
2. A memo including detailed responses indicating how each condition has been satisfied. If
changes other than those requested have been made, identify those changes in the memo
also. Highlighting the changes in the drawing with "clouding" or by other means will facilitate
review and approval.
3. The attached "Revised Application Submittal" form. This form must be returned with your
revisions to ensure proper tracking and distribution.
When staffs review of this information indicates that all conditions of approval have been met, a
Certificate of Appropriateness may be issued.
