A regular meeting o.f ~he.B~ard of. County Supervisors of Albemarle County, Virginia,
held at the Office Building of the said County on the 16th day of October, 1940.

The following Officers were present: County Executiveand Sheriff.
Minutes of the meeting of September !8~ .19-$0, were read and approved.
An Ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND RE-ENACTING AN ORDINANCE ADOPTED ON
SEPTEMBER 20, 1939, IMPOSiNG COUNTY LICENSE TAXES ON CARNIVALS, AND.PRE?ERIBING PENALTIES
FOR EXHIBITING, &c., WITHOUT SUCH LICENSE" was considered and ordered published according to
law with the intention of it being proposed for passage at the regular November, 1940, meet-
ing,
Mr. Ho A. Haden, Director of Finance, submitted a sta%ement of expenses of the Depar%-
merit of Finance for the month of September, 1940, one-third of which to be borne by the
State. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, this statement was examined, verified and ap-
proved.
Claim was presented by C. V. ~Vingfield for sheep missed. Upon motion, duly made smd
seconded, this claim was denied due to lack of evidence that the sheep were gilled by dogs.
Upon motion, duly made and seconded, $7~.00, or as much thereof as may be necessary,
was appropriated to cover the pm~hase cf school books for indigent children during the
current school year by the following recorded vote: Ayesz Messrs. J. M. Fray~ E. J. Ballard
P. H. Gentry, H. Ashby Harris and C. Purcell McCue; Noes: None.
The report of T. Coleman A~drews and Company on audit of the accounts and reco'rds of
the County for the year which ended June 30, 1940, was presented and ordered filed.
Communication from J. C. Masten'~ First Assistant Assessor, State Corporation Com-
mission, relating .to the assessment of the property of the Southern Railway Company, was
presented and ordered filed. The Co~mty Executive was instructed to inform ~Mr. Masten that
thyBoard feels that 'it ShoUld be notified before such reductions are~maa~e.
The following~repor~s were presented and ordered filed:
1. County Executive.
2. University of Virginia Hospital.
3. Game ~arden.
The County' Executive was instructed to invite the members cf the City Council to meet
with this Board at 2:30 P. M. on Friday, November 1, 1940, to consider the advisability
of prohibiting the sale Of Beer and Wine on Sunday.

County Fair i~.?%he community and report back at..the next regular meeting.
Claims against the County, amounting to~'$33,~23.17, were presented, examined, and
allowed, and ordered certified to the Director of Finance for payment and charged against
