RE: ARB -2017-48 Automotive Aesthetic Sign
Dear Tanya,
I have reviewed the above -noted sign application. The following clarifications are needed in order to
complete the review:
1. Cabinet signs are not the preferred illuminated sign type in the Entrance Corridor. Have channel
letters been considered as an alternative?
2. Lighting: the manufacturer's specifications for the Outdoor LED Strip Lights suggest that the
proposed color of the LEDs will be Amber, in which case the push -through translucent white
acrylic letters will appear yellow when back -lit. Please revise the drawings to illustrate this if
Amber is the LED color choice. Otherwise specify the exact LED color choice on the
manufacturer's specification sheet.
3. Location: please provide a broader photograph of the entire elevation on which the proposed sign
will be placed and mark the proposed sign placement.
In addition, the following revisions are requested to make the proposal consistent with the Entrance
Corridor Sign Guidelines.
1. All portions of the cabinet sign which are opaque must be marked as such on the drawings. The
backgrounds must be made opaque (zero light transmittance)
2. Cabinet signs shall be constructed such that no light spills outward from the top, bottom, sides or
back. Please revise the drawings to include this note.
3. All illumination shall be non -blinking. Please revise the drawings to include this note.
4. On the revised drawings, please include the standard lighting note: The level of illumination
provided by the LED lights will not exceed the illumination produced by a single stroke of 30
milliamp (ma) neon.
Please respond by email within 15 days of the date of this letter indicating whether you will or will not
proceed with these revisions. Your decision to make the revisions will suspend the 60 -day review period
associated with your original submittal. If you choose to complete the revisions, please email the revised
drawings to me. If you choose not to proceed with these revisions, staff will be unable to approve your
application. Failure to respond to this letter shall be presumed to be a request to proceed to action on the
application without further revisions.
