Fax (434) 972-4126 August 11, 2017 Taylor Brown Suntribe Solar P O Box 1467 Charlottesville, VA 22902 RE: ARB-2017-63: Colonial Nissan Solar Array Dear Mr. Brown, The Albemarle County Architectural Review Board, at its meeting on August 7, 2017, completed a preliminary review of the above -noted request to install a solar array/shade canopy on the roof of the existing building. The Board offered the following comments on the proposal, to be addressed in a work session. Revise the design to minimize the effect of the canopy/array on the visual character of the building and to visually integrate the proposed canopy/array with the architecture of the building. Options include but are not limited to: a. Add an architectural element that screens the canopy/array and/or integrates it with the existing building. Provide screening as appropriate to break down the scale, level and reinforce the horizontal, de-emphasize the character of the pre-engineered frame. b. Revise the colors of the structural elements of the canopy/array to distinguish it from the building, lighter than the dark color presented at the meeting. Provide a matte finish. c. Reduce the height and increase the setbacks of the canopy/array to reduce visibility and visual impacts. 2. Identify on the plans and elevations the Iocations and sizes of all proposed equipment (inverters, etc.). Show how visibility of the equipment will be eliminated. 3. Add the standard mechanical equipment note to the drawings. Visibility ofall mechanical equipmentfrom the Entrance Corridor shall be eliminated. To place the work session on the August 21, 2017 ARB agenda, please email me revised drawings addressing the above -noted issues by 12 Noon on Friday, August 18 and bring six hard copies of your revised drawings to the work session for distribution.
