Box 400218 Charlottesville, VA 22904 RE: ARB -2017-52: UVA Indoor Golf Facility at Birdwood Dear Chris, We have received the above -noted application for a county -wide Certificate of Appropriateness for Structures Located 750' or More from the Entrance Corridor. The following revisions are requested to make the proposal consistent with the design criteria that apply to the County -wide Certificate. Site plans to scale (1" = 20'). a. The following note should be added to the site and architectural plans: Visibility of all mechanical equipment form the Entrance Corridor shall be eliminated. A landscape plan which includes a plant schedule listing proposed species and calipers. a. The landscape plan must include the standard plant health note: All site plantings of trees and shrubs shall be allowed to reach, and be maintained at, mature height; the topping of trees is prohibited. A revised photometric plan in which: a. Illumination values do not exceed 20 footcandles, which is the maximum level of allowable illumination in the Entrance Corridor overlay district. The highest value on the current lighting plan is 32.2 footcandles (fc). b. Cut sheets for all lighting fixtures are provided on a separate sheet in the site plan set. c. Mounting heights of light poles are given in which the base heights are included and specified. d. The color of the lighting fixtures are noted. Bronze or black are approvable. e. The standard lighting note is included on the plan: Each outdoor luminaire equipped with a lamp that emits 3, 000 or more initial lumens shall be a full cutoff luminaire and shall be arranged or shielded to reflect light away fi^om adjoining residential districts and away from adjacent roads. The spillover of lighting fi°om luminaires onto public roads and property in residential or rural areas zoning districts shall not exceed one- half footcandle. £ Confirms on the plan that the LLF (maintenance factor) used in calculating the photometrics is 1.0 for all proposed light fixtures. g. Correlates the lighting and landscape plans to ensure that there are no potential siting conflicts with lighting fixture placement and proposed and extant landscaping and utilities. Within 15 days of the date of this letter, please send me a letter (by email is acceptable) indicating whether you will or will not proceed with these revisions. If you choose not to proceed with these revisions, staff will be unable to approve your application. If you choose to proceed with the revisions, please forward me one set of revised drawings together with a memo summarizing the revisions you've made. Your decision to make the revisions will suspend the 60 -day review period associated with your original submittal. However, I expect to complete the review of your revised proposal within 2 weeks of your re -submittal. If you have any questions about this action, please contact me as soon as possible.
