RE: LOR for Monticello Visitor Center Parking Lot Lighting
Dear Rob,
I have reviewed your requests for a Letter of Revision and an Amendment to a Certificate of Appropriateness for lighting in
the Monticello Visitor Center Parking lot. I have the following comments:
1. It appears that SDP-2005-81 was a Preliminary Site Plan. A preliminary site plan cannot be amended. So,your
request is for a letter of revision to SDP-2008-06(which was a minor amendment to SDP-2006-09).
2. Please note the following information on the plan: overall pole/fixture height and pole/fixture color.
3. Please note on the plan the light loss factor(maintenance factor)used for calculating the photometrics. To meet
ordinance requirements,the LLF must equal 1.0. If 1.0 was not used, please revise the photometric plan
accordingly.
4. Add the standard lighting note to the plan:Each outdoor luminaire equipped with a lamp that emits 3,000 or more
initial lumens shall be a full cutoff luminaire and shall be arranged or shielded to reflect light away from
adjoining residential districts and away from adjacent roads. The spillover of lighting from luminaires onto public
roads and property in residential or rural areas zoning districts shall not exceed one-half footcandle.
5. Please show on the plan the lot line that runs close to the parking lot on the east side of the property. Show light
levels out to the property line and ensure that illumination does not exceed .5 fc at the property line.
6. Include a note on the drawing stating that no trees will damaged or removed as a result of the lighting.

Dear Mrs. Maliszewski:
This letter will serve as a Letter of Revision to the "The Thomas Jefferson Visitors
Center and Smith History Center" site plan. I previously met with Sarah Baldwin and she
determined that this project fell under the conditions of a Letter of Revision.
The purpose of this revision is to install additional parking lot lighting throughout the
Visitor Center parking lot to enhance pedestrian safety. The lighting consist of pole lights
in the parking areas and bollard lighting in the pedestrian areas. The bollard lights are
well below the 3,000 lumen limit that requires approval, however they are shown on the
photometric to illustrate the entire lighting project.
The area to be lighted is well away from public roads and residential areas therefore the
impact should be minimal. I have included the photometric plan as well as the cut sheets
for the lighting for your review.
Enclosed with this letter please find the following:
1 copy - Letter of Revision Application and Fee
4 copies—Photometric Plan and Cut Sheets
Based upon the information provided in this letter of revision and the revised drawings
we respectfully request the County's approval of this plan revision.
