RE: ARB-2017-10: Sparrow Hill Subdivision Sign
Dear Mr. Rector,
I have reviewed the above -noted sign applications. The following revisions are requested to make the
proposal consistent with the Entrance Corridor Sign Guidelines.
Revise the sign plan to specify the materials of each component including the sign, the bar that
supports the sign and the monument base.
Rev. 1: Comment not fully addressed. Insufficient information has not been provided for
monument veneer. Address the following:
• Provide the manufacture's name for the stone veneer proposed for the monument portion
of the sign.
• The model numbers provided for the veneer appear to be for the "corner" portion of the
sign. Also, include the model number for the "flat" portion of the veneer or clarify why
the numbers provided are correct and sufficient.
• Provide either a sample of the veneer or the location of a local (Albemarle County)
installation of the specific veneer (exact manufacture, model number(s) and color) that
the County reviewer can inspect for the proposed veneer for the monument.
Rev. 2: Comment not fully addressed. Address the following:
• The material shown in the sign Dlan does not match the material at the Martha
Jefferson Hospital (MJH) that was specified. See the attached photograph of the
MJH site.
• Provide EITHER a sample of the veneer or the location of a local (Albemarle
County) installation of the specific veneer (exact manufacture model number(s) and
color) that the Countv reviewer can inspect for the proposed veneer for the
monument. Any samples will be retained by the County for future reference
• Ensure that material shown in the sign plan, its manufacture's name color and
number(s), match those of the sample provided or example specified
2. Revise the sign plan to specify the colors of each component including the sign, the bar that
supports the sign and the monument base. In the case of the veneer on the monument base
provide information on the veneer to be used including the vendor, the veneer name, and a color
graphic provided by the vendor showing its colors. Be aware that there should only be three or
less colors utilized.
Rev. 1: Comment not fully addressed. Address the following_
• Specify the specific Pantone color numbers for each of the three colors (text, background
& lines) in the sign portion of the monument sign or provide a color sample of each color.
• Specify the Pantone color number or stain and finish for the "western cedar" bar that
holds the sign or provide a sample.
• See above in reference to the veneer proposed for the monument base.
Rev. 2: Comment not fully addressed. Address the following:
• The number of one of the three Pantone color samples (Pantone 7534 C) does not
match the color listed in the sign plan (PMS 7834). Ensure that the intended color is
the one listed in the sign plan. It appears that PMS 7834 may be a typographical
error since it does not appear to be a current Pantone number.
• On sheet 3 of 3 there are two colors listed, with color squares, in the title block that
appear to be in error. Either remove these from the title block or specify which of
the Pantone colors they are equivalent to and ensure they are the same colors. One
of the two does not appear to match the Pantone colors specified.
• See above in reference to the veneer proposed for the monument base.
Revise the sign plan so that all of the sheets show the sign in the same orientation. The
landscaping sheet and sheet 2 appear to show the sign rotated 90 degrees in comparison to the rest
of the sign plan, including the rendered image on the landscaping sheet.
Rev. 1: Comment not fully addressed. Add a north arrow to the landscaping sheet in order to
clarify the orientation and location of the plantings.
Rev. 2: Comment addressed.
4. Revise the sign plan so that sheets 2, 3 & 4 show the sign at the correct scale and location.
Rev. 1: Comment not fully addressed. The sheets specified are still not drawn and/or shown to
scale. The scale bars are not printed in a way that allows their to be measured with the scale
specified. The landscape sheet does not show the monument, and the bar that holds the sign, to
scale or even in proportion to each other_
Rev. 2: Comar e at suffl6 i
Ij!I-address ed.
5. Revise the sign plan so that the landscaping does not cross the right of way line and the location
of the existing fence is shown.
Rev. 1: Comment not fully addressed. The landscaping plan no longer shows an existing fence,
and contains a note that states "NOTE: No Existing Fence", although a fence is shown on the
previously approved site plan. Either confirm that the fence no longer exists, that it will be
removed, or update the landscaping plan sheet to not specify that there is no existing fence.
Rev. 2: Ca -amen. L.kuf Iq enadej spIL4.
6. Revise the Landscape plan so that the table specifying the plantings includes the text "Quantity"
above the appropriate column.
Rev. 1: Conanaent addressed.
7. Revise the sign plan so that the sign, and the monument base, meet the setback requirements for
signs in an R-1 zone. Provide dimensions showing that that ordinance will be met.
Rev. ii: Commenit addressed.
8. Revise the sign plan to include dimensions for the text height of both lines of text on the sign.
Rev. 1: Compaeut addressed.
9. Either provide a note specifying that there will be no internal or external illumination of the sign
or provide all required information on any illumination.
Rev. 1: Comment addressed.
10. Revise the page numbers so that they each have the correct number. The third and fourth sheets
in the sign plan are not numbered correctly.
Rev. 1: Coyoam..en.t addressed.
11. [NEW COMMENT] Revise page number 2 of 3 to address the following:
• The rectangular shape representing the location of the monument sign is no longer
shown on the page and may have been accidentally removed. Ensure the sign
location and size are accurately shown.
• The dimension between the road right of way and the monument sign is no longer
shown on the page and may have been accidentally removed. This dimension is
required and must be provided in the sign plan to ensure the sign meets zoning
regulations.
12. [NEW COMMENT] Revise the landscaping sheet (page number 3 of 3) to address the
following:
• The plantings and plant symbols have changed since the last submission and it is
unclear what item numbers are assigned to which symbols.
• There is one symbol that does not have a leader with a number pointing to it.
• Item number 5 has no leader to specify the svmbol it's associated to. It is also not in
the same area of the planting bed as the symbol that is not assigned an item number.
• Item number 4 is supposed to have a quantity of 6, but its leader is pointing at a
symbol showing 14 items.
• Item number 3 is supposed to have a quantity of 15, but its leader is pointing to a
very small area of lines lust below the left side of the sign.
• Ensure that all plant symbols are associated with the correct item number and that
the quantity of plantings for that item number is correctly shown by the number of
symbols in the drawing.
