NOTE ON LIVE STAKES / CUTTINGS / CLUMPS
1. USE WILLOW OR WILLOW TYPE ADVENTITIOUSLY ROOTABLE STOCK.
2. MATERIAL SHOULD BE FROM AN AREA WITH SIMILAR SOIL, CLIMATE, AND LOCATION
RELATIVE TO THE STREAM.
3. THE MATERIAL SHALL BE AT LEAST TWO YEARS OLD AND FREE OF DISEASE, ROT, OR
INSECT INFESTATION.
4. MATERIAL SHALL BE HARVESTED WHILE DORMANT AND SOAKED (1 TO 14 DAYS) BEFORE
INSTALLATION.
STABILIZATION MEASURES
1. THE ROOTWAD REVETMENTS OR LIVE RIPRAP HAVE THE SAME GENERAL APPICABILITY.
2. THE OPTION OF WHICH MEASURE TO USE SHALL BE COORDINATED WITH THE ENGINEER.
3. WHERE ROCK OR MATERIAL PRECLUDING INSTALLATION OF ROOTWADS IS ENCOUNTERED IN THIE
TOE OF THE BANK, LIVE RIPRAP WILL BE THE PREFERRED OPTION.
4. WHERE A STABLE RIPRAP SLOPE WILL DISTURB MORE THAN 5' AT TOP OF BANK, THE ROOTWJAD
REVETMENTS IS THE PREFERRED OPTION.
5. MATERIAL AVAILABILITY AND ACCESS WITH APPROPRIATE MATERIALS WILL BE CONSIDERED WHIEN
SELECTING APPROPRIATE MEASURE.
6. WHERE HEIGHT OF ERODED BANK IS GREATER THAN A SINGLE ROOTWAD, A SECOND ROOTWACD
CAN BE USED BETWEEN AND ABOVE BASE ROOT WAD LAYER WITH 1' OVERLAP ON EACH
ADJACENT ROOTWAD.
7. WHERE A SECOND ROW OF ROOTWADS DOES NOT REACH THE TOP OF THE ERODED BANK,
ADDITIONAL MEASURES AS DIRECTED BY ENGINEER MAY BE NECESSARY. CONTACT ENGINEER
FOR COORDINATION.
