Dear Ms. Ragsdale,
Thank you for your help in sorting out what's needed for the building permit for the proposed
terrace addition to the Afton Scientific building on Avon Street. We hereby request a Letter
of Revision for improvements to the property consisting of a keyed block retaining wall, ter-
race surfaced with precast pavers, railing, and some concrete sidewalk work. The trellis
shown on the drawings will not be built at this time.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or need additional information.
You may know that the contractor is anxious to begin work on this project, so anything you
can do to expedite the approval process would be much appreciated!

My name is Beattie Sturgill, and I'm the Facilities Manager at Afton Scientific.Thanks for helping Tim with the process of
getting the proper forms submitted on Afton's behalf for our recent project. I wanted to reach out to see if there is
anything I can do to expedite the permit process. I know that you probably get requests often to expedite, and I
apologize for this request, but we're having clients in at the end of September that are very important. We'd like to have
the project complete by then in order to satisfy the clients, which if the visit goes well, could bring more money/jobs in
for the county.

OK, I think I understand what you are needing now. Who would be responsible for altering/making the
necessary corrections to the site map? Would it be the architect? The engineer? It looks like Robert
Coleman's stamp is on the site map. Is he responsible for making this change?

was confused or something along the way. We are requesting an update to the site plan
with the letter of revision application. We do strive to provide clear, concise information
the first go round. Sorry if you are not getting that.
I was just pulling together some additional information to send you. Any change to an
industrial or commercial site that has a site plan requires an update to the site plan first
before building permits can be issued. Site plans are required with the building permit
application for commercial/industrial permits. For minor changes to a site plan like this
scope of work,the county created the Letter of Revision policy.This site has actually
used up all 3 of its letters of revision but will allow a 4th in this case. A link to the site
plan amendment policy is below for more background.
The prior letters of revision we have approved are attached and hopefully provide you
some guidance. If you would like to set up a time to discuss further I am available
tomorrow if you'd like to set up an appointment. I have been in and out of my office at
meeting with other customers the past few days.

This site is located on an Entrance Corridor. I don't think it is visible from Avon Street
but the ARB design planner is double checking that. I will let you know as soon as I hear
back if their review is necessary.
Here is a status of the reviews so far with this permit (below). Once we get the LOR
taken care of,we can approved zoning.The next step will be a Preliminary Zoning
inspection.The work must be marked in the field and a zoning inspection scheduled on
the inspections line (434-972-4179). Once that is approved, the permit can be issued.
(This is also a requirement of all industrial, commercial,and certain other residential
types of permits in case you aren't familiar with this step.)
This should cover all the additional information you may need.

I tried calling earlier- I left a message.
I never knew Stewart was working on this and definitely wasn't aware of him being on
vacation. No one has been in touch with me until your email and voice mail message
today.
I called last Friday because it had been two weeks since dropping off the application.
was surprised I had to call to check on the status of this permit. I'm glad I did because
how would I have ever known that the original Site Map I submitted with the
Application, was lost. I thought I would have been notified of such a problem.
dropped off a new/another Site Map yesterday with the receptionist and, like the
original map, I highlighted, with a highlighter,the footprint of the proposed retaining
wall. I highlighted the footprint of the proposed wall area because this is what I was
told to do by an older woman whom works in the Community Development office
there. She was very nice and seemed very knowledgeable about the permitting
process.

I do not understand why we must submit a Letter of Revision for this project. I was told
to provide architectural drawings, engineer drawings, a site map (plat), a filled out
application, and provide a check for processing-which I've done. The architectural
drawings I submitted are dated May 5, 2016 and the engineer drawings are dated
August 5, 2016. Are we talking about the same project? Obviously, whatever I need to
do to get this done, I will do.
Sorry if this is my confusion. I normally do not have to seek permitting for the work we
do. I'm a bit of a novice at this. However, I'd like for my next trip to the County Office
Building concerning this project to be my last. Hope you understand.
Your advice concerning this matter is greatly appreciated.
