Hi, Bob.
My file shows that in our last correspondence we agreed that Alternate 3 was preferred, and you were going to speak
with the owners about it. I have nothing after that.

Margaret,
I thought that I had sent the final revised drawings to you for Price Hyundai back in February, but I am not
finding a record here. Did you receive the final changes? Please let me know as soon as possible. If you did not,
I will get the revised package to you right away. They are finally ready to move ahead.

Bob,
Thanks for sending these alternates. I think both designs do what the ARB asked. The recess breaks up the height
enough to eliminate the top-heavy appearance. I think Alt 3 results in a more cohesive overall appearance -- at least in
the elevation drawings. My hesitation with Alt 2 is that the vertical joints in the un-patterned ACM really have a visual
impact, and although they align with the storefront glass divisions, they seem to fight with the curvilinear lines in the
main fascia. The effect may just be emphasized by the drawing, but that's my concern with Alt2.
Your preference???

Margaret,
Two alternates are attached for the Price elevation. ALT 2 is the one I sent yesterday. ALT3 is another
variation which also reflects some of our discussion yesterday. Both are worth considering. I won't tell you
which is my preference until I get your reaction.
thank you,

Personally, I like ALT 3 the best; I just think using a similar -colored but not similar -patterned ACM (the same around the
door) draws more/same amount of attention to the height of the pop-up, not less. I think I also just like the use of fewer
materials on a fagade, so ALT 3 uses the same patterned AGM but with a band/recess/break that seems fine to me.
I do wonder what it would have looked like if he did a wider band break and set it lower in the "forehead," to create a
sort of sign band in which the channel letters and logo could sit... I suppose ALT 2 kind of achieves that...?

Thank you. I will be submitting tomorrow. In the meantime, I have attached digital copies of the drawings for
your convenience. Also, I am including an alternate image for the West Elevation. I will not submit this with the
package but will bring it with me to the hearing as an alternate, if the Board decides that they would like to see
an alternate.

Bob,
Thanks for sending the photo. Please include it in the submittal. It is good information to have. I'm concerned about the
appearance of the EIFS above the ACM, and 1 think the ARB will be, too.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly once again.
Answers to your questions:
1. No other dealership has the EIFS above the ACM. We need the extra height at the front where other
dealerships do not have the need for the mezzanine. I had proposed a scheme where the ACM carried all the
way up but Hyundai was adamant about keeping the ACM band at 8 ft so that it looked like all their other
dealerships.
2. Photo is attached.
3. I will include the color sample
4. Ycs, the EIFS can align with the end of the storefront on both north and south.,

Bob,
I think this should go to the ARB, so the fee is required with 8 sets of drawings. A few questions:
1. Are there photos of dealerships in other locations that use the ACM fascia topped by the EIFS wall?
2. Are there photos of the exterior view of the green columns?
3. Please include a color sample for the Antler Velvet.
4. On the north elevation, can the west end of the new EIFS wall align with the end of the front storefront?
Thanks.

Margaret,
Thank you for getting back to me. I have attached copies of the previous front elevation, the new front
elevation, the north (side - both sides similar) elevation, and the Exterior Finish Schedule which is part of the
front elevation sheet.
The site plan is unchanged with the exception of the former proposed addition behind the building. Site
utilities will not allow for this addition.
Most colors and finishes are unchanged (,see 1 below for exception.)
The rectangular entry element over the front door is unchanged.
The changes are as follows:
1. The existing structural system would not allow a mezzanine with suitable head height so the owners are
forced to more it to the front of the building. This has resulted in raising the facade along the front by 4'-5".
The raised portion is finished in EIFS and has a medium bronze cap. Color is a light tan. The height, finish,
and design of the ACNI panels is unchanged.
2. The sign, "Price" has been added to the left side of the facade.
3.The storefront system has been changed to a system of butt -glazed glass with an interior supporting framing
system. The glass spec is unchanged. The framing system is no longer a visual element as viewed from the
exterior.
4. The columns inside the glass have been changed from 2' x 2' white columns to the new- corporate design
which uses (3) inclined 6" columns, painted green.
The new height of this elevation is close to what the original (first) submission showed as a height, when it
was a large blue square over the door. The revised height is more in -scale with the adjacent Chevy showroom
building.
I am ready to submit as soon as I know whether or not the fee will be required. If the fee is required I will
simply follow County guidelines for number of prints and the check list. If the fee is not required, how many
prints will you need?
Thank you,

Hi, Bob.
A fee will apply if the changes are significant enough that the proposal needs review by the ARB. (That would be an
"amendment to an approved Certificate of Appropriateness" at $242 on the application form.) Minor changes could
be approved by staff at no charge. (Under Countywide Certificate of Appropriateness, that would be "minor
amendments to site or architectural plans.") if you aren't sure which it should be, you can email me a list of the
changes with the approved and proposed designs, and I'll let you know which it is.
Here are the links to the checklists of submittal requirements for the ARB level review and the staff level review,
which you'll need to include with the application. The January 2 submittal deadline is now actually January 3 because
the 2"d is now a County holiday. The corresponding meeting date is February 12.
Thanks

Margaret,
The Price Hyundai people have finally decided to move forward with the addition/renovation to their
showroom on 29 north. Since they have waited so long, Hyundai corporate has made modifications to the
standards for their designs and I now need to submit for a modification to the ARB approval I received. I
want to submit for the February hearing. Could you please let me know if there is a fee associated with the
submittal? I believe the submittal date is January 2.
thank you,
