The composition seems fine to me, the only concern I have is if it is out of scale with the rest of the building signage. If that is not a problem then this sign seems fine. The current sign proposal is attached to this message. The Comp Sign Plan for this building limits letter height to 24". The "L" is proposed at 51" tall. This is a reduction from the original proposal, which was 62". The reduction was made after I told the applicant I would consider an "L" that was taller than 24". 1 offered this because the graphic for the Evolution Hearing sign is 51" tall and the "L" originally had a spot of red infill (see below) which, together with the "fancy" script, gave it more of a graphic quality. That has been lost in the current version (attached). The wall area in this location steps to over 8' and 10' in height, so the sign doesn't appear to overcrowd the wall, but it is still large. (The CSP also states that letter height minimum is 14". The "Mexican Restaurant & Bar" letters are 10" — a lesser problem, I think.) Note also that this sign would sit a bit higher on the wall than the other existing signs. Can you provide any direction on the letter size? Would you want to make an exception of this scale? Should we maintain the 24" height limit? Other suggestions? Thanks so much for your help. I've forwarded it to the ARB chairperson for input. I'm still uncomfortable approving the size. I was thinking that the "L" had a graphic quality to it that might balance with the Evolution graphic. With the color change and loss of the red infill in the "L", I think the graphic quality is lost. I will be out of the office until Tuesday, but Brent will be able to forward you any input we get from the ARB while I am away. Thanks. I've also called out all of the other letters heights. My customer decided to change the colors as well. They opted to change "La" to red, "Michoacana" to white, and the tagline to white. Let me know if there are any additional revisions required. Thanks! I'm having trouble justifying the 62" for the "L" when the Comp Sign Criteria limit letter height to 24". 1 can partially see the "L" as a cross between a letter and a graphic. A taller graphic was approved for Evolution Hearing. That approved graphic height was 4'3". I'd be willing to consider the sign with an "L" that doesn't exceed 4'3". Can you make that revision so we can see if it results in a consistent appearance for the building? If so, it would also be helpful to know which other letters in the sign exceed 24" and by how much. Thanks for continuing to work with us on this.
