PUBLIC HEAR INGS:
14. ____ Inoperable vehicles. Intent to adopt an ordinance to amend Sec. 9500, Keeping of inoperative motor
v ehicles; removal, of C hapter 9, Motor Vehicles and Traffic, of the Albemarle County Code. This ordinance
w ould amend Sec. 9500 by adding and amending definitions pertaining to inoperable vehicles; by reducing
from 2 to 1, in zoning districts other than the R ural Areas (R A) z oning district, the number of inoperable
v ehicles that may be parked or stored (“kept”) outside of a fully enclosed building (“outdoors”), imposing
enhanced screening, shielding and covering requirements, and allowing two vehicles to be kept outdoors
only for up to 180 days for ac tive repair or restoration; in the Rural Areas (RA) zoning distric t, by continuing
to allow up to tw o inoperable vehicles to be k ept outdoors prov ided they are s hielded or sc reened from view
or covered; delineating the class es of authorized businesses to which these regulations do not apply; and by
providing for removing and disposing of inoperable vehicles under prescribed procedures.
15. ZTA201300005. Inoperable vehicles. Intent to adopt an ordinance to amend Secs. 183.1, Definitions, 18
4.12.3, Prohibited Activities in Parking, Stacking and Loading Areas, and 184.15.7, Prohibited Signs and
Sign C haracteristics, of Chapter 18, Zoning, of the Albemarle C ounty Code. This ordinance would amend
Sec. 183.1, Definitions, by adding and amending definitions pertaining to inoperable vehicles; amend Sec.
184.12.3, by reducing from 2 to 1, in zoning dis tricts subjec t to section 184.12.3 other than the Rural Areas
(RA) zoning dis tric t, the number of inoperable v ehicles that may be parked or stored (“kept”) outside of a
fully enclosed building (“outdoors”), imposing enhanced screening, shielding and covering requirements,
requiring that inoperable vehic les be kept only behind a line es tablished by the front face of the primary
s tructure on a parcel, and allow ing two vehic les to be kept outdoors only for up to 180 days for active repair
or restoration; in the Rural Areas (RA) zoning dis trict, by continuing to allow up to two inoperable vehicles to
be kept outdoors provided they are shielded or sc reened from v iew or covered; and delineating the classes
of authorized businesses to whic h these regulations do not apply; amend Sec. 184.15.7 by making a
technical clarification referring to inoperable v ehic les.
