An adjourned meeting of the Board of Supervisors of Albemarle County, Virginia, was held on
Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 2:00 p.m., at COB 5th Street, Room A, Charlottesville, Virginia. The meeting
was adjourned from April 1, 2009. The purpose of the meeting was to participate in the Route 29 Corridor
Study Regional Leadership Planning Forum.
PRESENT: Ms. Ann H. Mallek, Mr. Dennis S. Rooker (left at 4:15 p.m.), Mr. David Slutzky and
Ms. Sally H. Thomas.
ABSENT: Mr. Kenneth C. Boyd and Mr. Lindsay G. Dorrier, Jr.

Purpose of Meeting: In October 2008, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDoT) and the
Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (VDRPT) initiated the Route 29 Corridor Study. This
study takes a comprehensive look at the entire 219 mile corridor through Central Virginia. As part of this
Route 29 corridor planning effort, a series of public meetings were held during February and the input from
these meetings will be valuable in developing the vision plan (Blueprint) for the Corridor. In addition to the
input from the public meetings, they believe it is important to have cross-jurisdictional discussions on
some of the issues that need to be addressed in the Route 29 Corridor Blueprint. To facilitate the cross-
jurisdictional discussions a series of community leadership workshops called Regional Leadership
Planning Forums were scheduled to solicit input and ideas regarding the future of the Route 29 corridor.
Input from these workshops will be used to help develop basic policies and direction regarding the
corridor’s future.
This forum will be an important and informative work session. It includes a brief presentation on
the current and potential future conditions on the corridor, followed by facilitated exercises to explore
different visions for the future of Route 29 – both in this region and state-wide. Attendees will work with
each other in small groups to map out possible futures for the corridor – including overall transportation,
land use and multi-modal options. The results of the work sessions will be brought together into a series of
corridor-wide alternatives for future transportation investments and policies as part of the long range
“blueprint” for Route 29. Each locality plays an integral role in enhancing the quality of life within the
communities along the Route 29 Corridor.

The meeting was called to order at 2:15 p.m., and Mr. Charles Resnick, of VDoT, welcomed
everyone. In addition to VDoT representatives, also present were the project consultants.
