An adjourned meeting of the Board bf Supervisors of Albemarle County,
Virginia, was held on April 3, 1992, at Noon, in the Basemen~ Meeting Room,
City Hall Building, Charlottesville, Virginia. This meeting was adjourned
from April 1, 1992.
PRESENT: Mr. Edward H. Bain, Jr., Mr. David P. Bowerman, Mrs. Charlotte
Y. Humphris and Mr. Forrest R. Marshall, Jr.
ABSENT: Mr. Charles S. Martin and Mr. Walter F. Perkins.
~OFFICERS PRESENT: County Executive, Robert W. Tucker, Jr.
This was a luncheon meeting scheduled with members of the Charlottesville
City Council (present were: Ms. Virginia Daugherty, Mr. Alvin Edwards, Mrs.
Kaye Slaughter and Mr. Thomas Vandeveer) in order to discuss items of mutual
concern between the County and the City. There was no formal agenda for this
meeting.
Mr. Marshall brought up the issue of economic development. He would like
to see the County, City and University of Virginia work at a common goal which
is the formation of a joint economic development commission. There was an
overall group discussion but no consensus was reached on pursuing this issue.
There was' also a general discussion on the role of the YMCA in the
community and the need to determine if the YMCA is duplicating services that ar.
being provided by the County, City and University of Virginia.
It was agreed to discuss these items at a future meeting of the two bodie
and to also discuss consolidation of City and County functions. The topics
mentioned for discussion at the next joint meeting were parks and recreation,
schools, economic development, trash collection and social issues.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:45 p.m.
