Thra~es, seconded by ~. Harris and unanimously carried. John W. Williams, Edgar N. Garnett, H. Ashby Harris, Edward L. Smith, M. Y. Sutherland', Jr., and Robert Thraves. We, the undersigned, members of the Board of County Supervisors of Albemarle County, Virginia, hereby waive notice and special service thereof, of a meeting to be held at 7:30 P.M. on the fourteenth day of February, 1958, in the County Court House, Charlottesville, Virginia, for the purpose of holding public hearing on matters per- taining to firearms, and we do hereby consent to the transaction of any and all business and the taking of such action at said meeting upon the matter hereina~ove mentioned may be lawful, incident and as necessary ther~too ~, Y':' SutUred: Jr. Robert ~raves Officers present: Commonwealth's Attorney. The following petition, signed by a number of citizens from the South side of Albemarle County, was received and read: "We, the undersigned residents of Albemarle County, Virginia, hereby, petition the Board of Supervisors of said county to request our representatives in the legislature presently meeting in Richmond, namely Senator E. O. McCue, Jr., and Delegate E. C. Compton to attempt to have said legislature pass statutes to accomplish the following in Albemarle County, Virginia: (1) The prohibition of hunting or attempting to hunt with firearms any game bird or game animal on or within 100 yards of the State highway (See Section 29-147.1 Code of Virginia 1950, as amended). (2) The prohibition of loaded firearms on any public highway (See Section 18-147.1 Code of Virginia, 1950 as amended.) (3~ The prohibition of hunting or attempting to hunt game with a rifle larger than twenty-two calibers (.22) (See Chapter ll6 Acts of the~.~Assembly 1952 Virginia). Mr. William Brown, Attorney, spoke briefly on behalf of the petitioners after which Mr. James H. Michael, Attorney, spoke on behalf of the Rivanna Rifle Club against said petition. A number of other citizens were hear~. Among those speaking for the petition were Dr. John Nahahan, Mr. Legh Walker, Mr. Lloyd-Reese, Mr. Clifford Spicer, and Mr. Robert Carter. Those speaking Egai~st the petition included M=. S. J. Hurt, Mr. Bill C~rter and Mr. Bill Naddello After hearing those who wished to speak regarding the matter, the Beard met with a committee from both groups. The committe'e for the p~ition consisted of Mr. Legh Walker, Mr. Ellis Jones, Mr. Robert Carter, Mr. Stuart Morgan, Mr. Harry Langhorne and Dr. John M~uahan~~. The other committee con- & sisted of Mr~ Joe Birckhead, Mr. Bill Carter, Mr. S. J. Hurt, Ufo Talmadge Markham, Mr~ Oscar Proffit. Mr. William BroWn and Mr. James H. Michael also sat in on this meeting. After a lengthy discussion in committee meeting, the Chairman announced to those present that the Board suggested the formation of a committee consisting of landowmers, represenatives of the Sports. men's Clubs and representatives of the Isaac Walton League, said committee to study the matter in question and to agree on some agreeable solution to the problem, at which time this Board would be glad to consider same.
