Palmer~ II ~-~ ~. Y. Sutherian~, Robert Thraves The County Executive presented a letter from I~r. Pahl H. Cale, Superintendent of Schools, to the effect that at least $70,000.00 should be included under disbursements for the payment of pupil scholarships for the current fiscal year. The communication furt~her stated that the budget should be revised on the revenue side as to include approximately $37,0~0.00 from the Commonwealth of Virginia as its share of such scholarships. The County Executive explained that at the time the budget was prepared in the early spring, it was impossible to calculate the amount that should be set aside for pupil scholarships. He stated that since the amoUnt for last year approximated $50,000.00~ a sum of $70,O00.00 would ~ppear to cover such disbursements for the current year. He stated that such amount had been con- sidered from month to month as a commitment by the County but had not been as yet set up in the budget. He further stated that due to more tangible evidence in the form of present applications,.a sum of $70,000.00 would be insufficient. However, since the ~J~ount had originally been cOnsidered as $70,000.00, he felt the budget should be adjusted to that figure. On motion of Nr. Harris, seconded by ~r. Garnett, ~u~ rules with respect to second reading being suspended, the follov¢ing resolution was unanimously adopted: BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Supervisors of Albemarle County, Virginia,~that the budget for the fiscal year 1960-6! be amended to appropriate $70,000.00 for scholarship grants for the current year and that revenue estimates also be revised to reflect the receipt of $37,000.00 from the Commonwealth of Virginia as its share of such grants. On motion, the meeting adjourned. /~,~" ~ Vice.Chairman~ ~
