1952-06-09SPECIAL Pursuant to the following waiver, the members of the Board of County Snpervisors of Albemarle Oounty, Virginia, met in special session on this date at 4:00 P.M. with-the following members present: Messrs. C. Purcell McCue, E. H. Bain, H. Ashby Harris, Edward L. Smith, J. W; Williams and W, W. Wood. We, the undersigned, members of the Board of Oo~unty Supervisors of Albemarle County, Virginia, hereby waive notice, and special service thereof, of a meeting to be held at 4:00 P.M. on the 9th ~day of June, 1952, in the County Office Building for the pur- pose of discussing the death of Thomas W. Wolfe, Deputy Sheriff, amd we do hereby consent to the transaction of any and all business and the taking of such action at said meeting upon the matter hereinabove mentioned as may be lawful, incident, and necessary thereto. E. H. Bain - '~ ~Edward L. Smith J.W. Williams w.w. - Mr. J. W. Willi~_s, Chairman of the Sheriff's Committee, presenting to the Board a report on the hospital and funeral expenses of Thomas W. Wolfe which amounted to $1,730.00 over and above the amount received from the Blue Cross Hospitalization Ins~rance which Mr. Wolfe carried. He further re- ported that Mr. Wolfe lef~ twof:dependents, his wife and a son now in the Engineering School of the University of Virginia. Mr. Williams stated that had Mr. Wolfe been covered by Workmen's Compensation, his widow would have received $20.00 per week for 300 weeks. On this basis, Mr. Williams recommended that the County pay Mrs. Wolfe $40.00 per week for 15~ weeks, the time during which she would be the most benefited due to her son's education, and in addition a lump sum of $1,730.00. Mr. Downing L. Smith, Commonwealth's Attorney, advised the Hoard that the statute provides for compensation to dependents of sheriffs and deputies and also a lump sum contribution, but gives no authority for the' ~aymen% by the County of hospital or funeral expenses, and advised the Boar~ against identifying any action with the payment of such expenses. Mr. D. A. Robinson was requested to contact the Social Security Office in Sta~_uton regarding the Benefits to which Mrs. Wolfe would be entitled. After a full discussion, this matter was taken under advisement to be passed on at~ the nex~ regular meeting. Upon motion, the meeting adjourned. Chairman
