Mr. Pence called the Board's attention to the fact that the Welfare Department was in need of
dictating eqnipment and he was authorized to purchasing this equipment for the Welfare Department.

Pursuant to the following waiver, the members of the Board of County Supervisors of Albemarle
County, Virginia, met in special session on this date in the County Office Building at 8~30 A.M. with the
following members present: Messrs. C. Purcell McOue, H. Ashby Harris, Edward L. Smith and John W.
Williams. Absent: Messrs. E. H. Bain and W. W. Wood.
We, the undersigned, members of the Board of County SupervisorS of Albemarle County,
Virginia, hereby waive notice, and special service thereof, of a meeting to be held
at 8:30 A~M. on the nint~ day of October, 1953, in the County Office Building, Char-
lottesville, Virginia, for the purpose of considering and acting upon Salary and Ex-
pense requests to the Compensation Board for the calendar year 1954 and W~.~d~her~byf

for the De~rtment of Finance in the total amour of $43,660.00 w~ch included $15.00 per month increase~
effective July l, 1954 for all employees ~ t~t department with the exceptions of R. C. Sours for whom
$40.00 per month increase was requested effective January l, 1954 and a l~e ~crease effective J~y l,
1954 and of S. S. Clark for whom a $10.00 per month ~crease was request~ effective J~uary l, 1954, an~
a like increase effective July l, 1954. Upon marion, made by Mr. Williams ~d seconded by ~. ~rris,

Salary and expense request form was presented for the Sheriff's Office requesting and annual
increase of the Sheriff of $500.00 and $300.00 for each of the deputies and dispatchers effective
January l, 195~, the total amount for the calendar year, including expenses and salaries being
$37,811.00. Upon motion, made by Mr. Williams and seconded by Mr. Harris, the following resolution was
unanimously adopted for submission tothe State Compensation Board along with the Salary and Expense
Request Form:
BE IT RESOLVED ~y the Board of County Supervisors of Albemarle County,
Virginia, that the Salary and Expense Request Form for the calendar year 195~ in
the total amount of $37,Ello00, as prepared by W. S. Cook, Sheriff, for the Albe-
marle County Sheriff's Office, be and is hereby approved.
Mr. Downing L. Smith presented salary and expense request form for the Office of the Common-
wealth's Attorney requesting a $25.00 per month increase for his secretary, the total amount of the re-
quest, including salaries and expenses, being $5,320.00. Upon ~otion, made by Mr. Nilliams, and second~
by Mr. Harris, the following resolution was ananimously adopted for submission to the State Compensatiot
Board along with the Salary and Expense Request Form:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Supervisors of Albemarle County,
Virginia, that the Salary and Expense Request Form for the calendar year 195& in
the total amount of $5~320.00, as prepared by Downing ~. Smi~th, Commonwealth's
Attorney, for the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney, be and is hereby approved.
In connection with salary increases in the Clerk's Office, the following resolution was
offered by Mr. Williams, seconded by Mr. Harris, and ~nanimously adopted:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Supervisors of Albemarle County,
Virginia, that the Salary and Expense Request-Form for the calendar year 195~ in
the total amount of $8~760.00, as prepared by Eva W. Maupin, Clerk, for the
Olerk's Office, be and is hereby approved.
