1955-01-26SPECIAL January 26, 1955 Pursuant to the following waiver, the members of the Board of County Supervisors of Albemarle County, Virginia, met in special session on this date in the County Office Building at 7:30 P.M. with the following members present: Messrs. E. H. Bain, H. Ashby Harris, C. Purcell McCue, Edward E. Smith, John W. Williams and W. W. Wood. We, .the ~ndersigned, members of the Board of County Supervisors of Albemarle' County, Virginia, hereby waive notice, and special service thereof, of a meeting to be held at 7:30 P.M. on the twenty-sixth day of January, 1955, in the County Office Building, Charlottesville, Virginia, for the purpose of considering the percentage of assessment of real estate and we do hereby consent to the transaction of any and all business and the taking of such action at said meeting upon the matters hereinabove mentioned as may be lawful, incident and necessary thereto. ~~~ -WE. Ba~e Mr. Pence adVis~ that the matter of percentage of assessment of real estate ~s come up and alternate plans proposed. He stated that ~ the 1~ is~ used, the rate for 1955 would have to be reduced ~erehy re6ucing utilities. Also, that it appeared desirable to apply a !ewer percentage and maintain approxi~tely the same rate in order to maintain same tax on utilities. Mr. Pence presented tethe ~ard estimates of revenue ~der 1~, 16% and 15%. The Co~onwealth's Attorney advised that assessment ~oks would ~ve to be completed by the end of Febr~ry. Cohsiderable discussion followed but the Board took no action en rece~ending a c~nge in the percentage to be ~ed. Mr. Willies s~gested that since the cards for motif~ag ~ayers of their real estate assess merits did not pre,de for a line to show their ol~ assessment, that a rubber stamp be us~ te request ~e t~yer to compare the new assessment wi~ ~at sho~ on his 1954 tax ticket and Mr. Pence ~s instructe to proceed with this matter. On motion, the meeting adjourned.
