A regular meeting of the Board-of-county Supervisors of Albemarle County~-~ Virginia: was held at the Office Building of said Goumty on the !3th day of September, 1944. Present: Dr. L. G. Roberts and Messrs. E. J. Ballard, To E. Bruce, P. H. Gentry, G. Purcell ~cCue, and ~. ~. Wood. Absent: None. Officers Present: County Executive, Commonwealth's Attorney, and Sheriff. Minutes of the meeting of August 16th were read and approved. Mr. H. A. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, this statement was examined, Verified, and approved. A Statement 'of the 'Cost of Maintenance 'of Prisoners confined in Jail for the month of August, 1944, was submitted. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, this Statement was examined, verified and approved. A Summary S~atement of Prisoner Days served in the County Jail during the month of ~LY~ 1944, was submitted. Upon motion~ duly made and seconded, this Statement was examined, verified~, and approved. Claims of Dr. R. T. Ergenbright, Jail Physician, amounting to $ 4.75, were pre- sented and approved for payment. The following, reports were presented and ordered filed: (a) County Executive. (b) Game ~rden. (c) U~iversity of Virginia Hospital. (d) District Home Board. (e) Board of Equalization. (f) City Library. Oommunications were received from Mr. George Gilmer, Attorney, concerning the ~rroneous assessment of certain lemds in Albemarle County. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, the followin~ Resolution was ~_uanimously adopted. CiPher's re- port Znd no further efforts be made to collect the taxes on sa~e. Request was received from E. H. Copenhaver, First Lieutenant, Company 2, Virginia Reserve Militia, for an appropriation of $50.00 for expenses in connection with the activities of that Company, and the appropriation requested was made. Claim amounting to $21.96 submitted by the Central State. Hospital was presented and approved for payment. The following resolution was unanimously adopted: WRE~ this Board has not laid a levy for School Debt purposes for the year 1944, NOW, THEREFOBE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Supervisors of Albemarle County, Virginia, that the School Debt -Fund smd the School Operating Fund be consolidated. Cor~munication wa~ received from the Citizens Bank and Trust Company requesting permission to take down certain securitiem which it has deposited in the Peoples National TSe following resolution was unanimously adopted: WHEREAS, the Citizens Bank and Trust Company has deposited in the Peoples National Bank of Charlottesville securities in excess of the ~ount necessary to secure the County deposits in the Citizens Bank and Trust Company, and WHEREAS, the Citizens Bank and Trust Company has requested permission to withdraw a portion of the securities, NOW~ THEREFOEE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the members of the Board of Supervisors of the County of Albemarle, Vi~'ginia, that the Peoples National Bank be, and is hereby, authorized to release to the Citizens Bank and Trust Company the following securities: $5000 U. S. Treasury 2~ bonds - 1949 ~ 1953 $1000 U. S. Treasury 2~ bonds 1967 1972 $5000 Kenbridge, Virginia, 5~~ bonds - 1959 Request was received from the league of Virginia Counties for an appropriation of $1~8.19 to assist in covering the cost of a~ounty Government Clinic to be established at the U~versity of Virginia. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, an appropriation of $1~8.19 was mmde for the purpose~requested. The Board's attention was called to the fact that the Annual Convention of the League of Virginia Counties wou~.d be held in Roanoke on September 20th and 21st. Mr. Wood, Mr. Ballard, t~.ro Bruoe, and Mr. Gentry~, were appointed delegates to attend this meeting. A revised budget for the Secondary System of Highways was presented by R. C. Ambler, Resident Engineer, and upon motion, du~y m~de and seconded, the budget was nnanimous~y approved. As provided by Law, the Director of Finance submitted the delinquent list for the year 1~43. Upon motion, duly n~de and seconded, it was ordered that no part of this list be published for the present. The following resolution was unanimously adopted: ~EREAS, the Travelers Indemnity Company issued bonds on the Director of Finance and his assistants as of January i, 1~49, replacing the United States Fidelity and Guaranty Company, N~, TH1~BEFOEE, BE IT P~SOLVED by the Board of County Supervisors of Albem~r!e County, Virginia, that the Eommonwealth's - Attorney be, and is hereby, requested to prepare new escrow agree- ments with the three banks which are County depositories, to be executed by the banks smd this Board. Communication from the Compensation Board concerning mileage for the Sheriff and his Deputies was presented. The County Executive was instructed to appear before the Compen- sation Board and ask that it either approve the present arrangement with the use of the Oo~n~ C~rs or allow a straight rate of mileage which is customary in othe~r places~ Ana ppropriation of $3~0.00 was made for the purchase o£ books for the Clerk to be used in recording discl~rges of service wen and women. The CountyExecutive was instructed to purchase radiator covers for the radiators in the Court House. The Board ~pproved a rate of $98.00 per miie for maintenance of Secondary roads.
