Minutes of the meeting of January l?th, 194~ were read and approved. Requests were presented'for the inclusion of the following pieces of road in the Secondary System: 1.) Road leading to boat docks at Albemarle Lake. 2.) Road leading into subdivision of F. E. PaUlett's road from Rt. 20, near §cottsville. Z.) Improve Rt. ?~2 from City Limits southward to connect with present improved road. 2.) Improve Rt. 626 from Howardsville to Rt. 6. 3.) Improve Rt. 648 from the top of the Hill overlooking ~echunk Creek eastward to the C & O Railroad track. 4.) Rt. 641 from the end of the present surfact treatment to the inter- section of Rt. 29. ~ Upon motion, duly made and seconded, the following resolution was unanimously adopted: BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Supervisors of Aibe- marle County, Virginia that the High-way Commission of Virginia be and is hereby requested to take into the Secondary System of this County the following pieces ~ ~oads: . 1. 500 ft. leading t~PresbyterianChurch at Crozet. 2. -3? mi. leading off of Rt. 717, Westward to A1- berene Cemetary and Church. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Highway Commission of Virginia be and is hereby requested to drop from the Secondary System the following road: 1. From the Intersection of Rt. 653, Southeastward .6 mi. Mr. Berlin Eye, District Forester, requested the cooperation of the Board in the prevention of forest fires. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, the following resolution was unanimously adopted: WHEREAS the forests of our county are being cut over rapidly in order to provide lumber for essential war industries, and such logging operations have created heavy slashings and serious fire hazards~ and WHEREAS the State forest wardens are finding is in- creasingly difficult, to employ men and to provide transportation for fire fighters, and WHEREAS far too many fires occur in this county,' of which nine out of t~n are man-caused and preventable, an~ WHEREAS there is great dange~ that destructive forest fires will occur during the Spring fire season unless a supreme effort is made by all citizens to prevent them from starting, and, WItEP~AS this Beard is cooperatinE with the Virginia Forest Service in the prevention and control of forest fires and wishes to extend all possible assistance in this war emergency~ NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT each citizen of Al~e- marle County be requested to be extremely careful to prevent forest fires, and that they fight small fires and report all fires-to the State Forest ~ardens. Mr. H. A. Haden, Director of Finance, submitted a Statement of Expenses of the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office for the month of January, 1545, one-half of which to be paid by the State. A Summary Statement of prisoner days served in the County Jail during the month of January, 1~$5, was submitted. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, this Statement was ex~mined, verified, and approved. Claim of Dr. R. T. Ergenbright, Jail Physician, ~motmting to $4.00 was approved for payment. The Commonwealth's Attorney reported en~th~e~.mCempensation of the Jail Physician and he was requested to report at the next meeting as to who is the present physician of the Jail and If provisions are made for an assistant. A request was received from the Citizens Bank ~nd Trust Company to take down cer- tain securities which it has depo~ited in escrow to protect the County's deposits~in said bank and put up sertain securities in lieu thereof. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, the following resolution was unanimously adopted: BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Supervisors of Albe- marle County, Virginia that the Citizens Bank and Trust Comp~uybe and is hereby authorized to take down the following securities: $6,000 Henrico Co. Va., San. Dist. Ne. 5, ~ater ~orks, Series "A", 2.20% Bonds maturing on 11/1/~6. $~,000 Henrico Co. Va., San. Dist. No. 5, Water ~orks, Series "A", 2.20% Bonds maturing on ll/1/5~. And put up in place thereof, the following: $1%000 U. S. Treaswry ~ Bonds of Request was received for financial assistance in connection with the Bessie Dunn Miller Cancer Prevention Clinic at the University of Virginia. Doyle, Director of County Government, and was referred to the County Executive for reply. The budget of the Health Department for the year beginning July l, 1955 showing estimated expenditures of $26,022.00 was approved. An offer of Ur. J. J. Edwards of $100.00 for ten acres of land purchased in August, 1944, at a tax sale was ordered accepted.
