1946-08-211o7 A regu~ar meeting of the Board of County Supervisors of Albemarle County, Virginia,~ was held at the Office Building of said County on the 21st day of August, 1946. Present: Messrs. P. H. Gentry, E. J. Ballard, T~ E. Bruce, Henry Chiles, C. Pur- cell McCue, and No W. Wood. ABsent: None. Officers present: County Executive, Commonwealth's Attorney, and Sheriff. Minutes of the meeting of July'lT, 19A6, were read and approved. Mr. H. G. Cockrell, Director of Finance, submitted ~ Statement of Expenses of the Department of Finance for the month of JuJy, 1946, one-~hird of which to be borne by the Uoon motion, duty made and seconded, this Statement was examined, verified, and ap- State. proved. Mr. H. G. Cockrell, Director. of Financ~? submitted a Statement of Expenses of the Sheriff's Office for the month of July, 1946, two-thirds of which to be borne by the State. Upon motion, duly made and seconded, this Statement was examined, verified, and approved. Mr. H. G~ Cockrell, Director of Finance, submitted a Statement of Expenses of the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, one-half of which to be borne by the State. Upon motion, dulY made and seconded, this Statement was examined, verified, and approved. A Statement of the Expenses incurred in the maintenanc~ of prisoners confined in the County Jail during the month of July, 1946, was submittedl Upon motion, duly made and seconded, this Statement was examined, verified, and approved. A Summary Statement of Prisoner Days for the month of July, 1945 was submitted~ iUpon motion, duly made and meconded; this statement was examined,~vsr~gied, and approved. ~s. Isabelle Nunnaly appeared and presented a copy of the Louden Oo~nty ZoninE !Ordinance and asked for approval of this by the Board. The mattm~was taken under consideratiion and Mrs. Nunnally was advised that definite action would be taken at the ne~_~eting. A group of citizens appeared and requested that Route 648 between Keswick and Campbell be extended to Route 607~ ~ Wood and Nr. Ballard were appointed to view this road a report to the Board at the next m~etlng~ A p~ition was presented requesting that l~ miles at Damon adjoining Route 6 and Route 630 be taken invo the secondary system~ Upon motion, made by ~r. Bruce an~ seconded by Mr. Wood, the follm~ing resolution was unanimously adopted~ BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Supervisors of Albe- marle County, Virginia, that the State Highway Department be and is hereby recommended to take into the Secondary System approximately 1.3 miles at Damon'adjoining Route 6 at Tilman's Store and Route 6~0 at Winebarber's Store. Request was received for improvement of Route 6 to E~mont Shhool. ~. Ambler ad- vised that this road was already in the Secondary System and would be taken care of but not hard surfaced. A group of colored peep~e appeared concerning the School Bond issue and were ad- vised to appear before the School Board at its next meeting. By au~$hority of the Board, the chairman was instructed to write to the members of the General Assembly concerning the complaints in regard to the game warden. The fol]~owing reportw were presented and ordered filed: (A.) County Executive. (B~) ~iversity of Virginia Hospital. Upon motion, made by Mro Bruce and seconded by' ~r. Chiles, ~, C. Purcell ~cCue was reappointed to serve on the Board of Public Welfare for a perio~ of three years. 155 Resignation was received from ~r. R. O. Hall as member of the School Board. Nr. Cockrell was instructed to write ktr. Hall and expess the Board's appreciation for his ser- vices and to ask him to continue to serve until someone could be appointed in his place. Upon recommendation by r~r. Gentry, I~r. Karl Wallace was appointed to serve on the School Board for the Charlottesville District. Miss Graves appeared and requested that she be allowed to employ additional office ~ help. Upon motion, made by Mr. ~cCue and seconded by Mr. Ballard, ~iss Graves was authorized to employ one person at $125.00 per month and two persons at $100.00 per month. Miss Graves also requested that each case worker be allowed one-half of a day off each month and was advised that this matter would be considered. Mr. Boyce appeared and asked that an ordinance be adopted in regard to dogs chasing deer. This matter was referred'to Mr. Fife, Commonwealth's Attorney. Communication was received from the League of Virginia Counties requesting a copy of future ordinances adopted by the County. A report on the inspection of the County Jail was received from the Department of Corrections. No.action was taken on this matter since recommendations for improvement are now in the hands of contractors to be submitted.to the Board. Claims against the County amounting to $33,953.97 were presented~ examined, and allowed and certified to the Director of Finance for payment and charged against the fol~owin funds: General Fund School Fund Dog Fund Crozet Fire Fund Commonwealth of Va.
