Given under our hands this 27th day of April, 1948. (signed) C. Purcell McCue E. J. Ballard C. R. Dorrier W. Warren Nood' Henry Chiles The following letter was read from General P. B. Peyton: The Chairman ~-~Board of Supervisors County Office Building Charlottesville, Virginia Dear Mr. McCue:. It appears that I will not be allowed to attend the meeting called for the election of a new county executive. In all such appointments I personally would vote in each instance for the~gest qualified man and pay him what he is worth. I feel strongly that the man's being county or not county should in no way in- fluence our selection. I do not feel we can justify to ourselves or others the ch~Ce of a second best man for any reason whatsoever. If I can vote by proxy, I vote fore.Mr. Robinson,-the present in- cumbent. I further believe him to be worth $7500 per annum to ns.~ The operation of that office is our responsibility and I think we Should take no risk by employing someone whose fitness may be open to question. I have asked Mr. Henry Chiles to cast my ballot if I can vote. Very Sincerely, (Signed) P. B. Peyton After which there was a discussion of the appointment of the County EXecutive and Director of Finance. Upon motion, made by Mr. Chiles and seconded by Mr. Balla~'d, Mr. Daniel A. Robinson is hereby offered the position of County Executive and Director of Financ~ for AlBemarle County at $7500.00 per annum, effective July I, 1948, which motion was carried by unanimous vote. ~ There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
