The minutes of the ta~t meeting were read and approved.
On Eotion of P.H.Gentry and seconded by J~A.O'Neill it is ordered that
the road from Henry Lamb's at the foot of Peters ~ountain to Orange County be adoptec
as a county road upon condition that Orange County work its part of the road.
On motion of C.Purcell l~cCue and seconded by P.H~Gentry it is ordered
that the Oovesville Read be opened by the S~muel IIiller ~istrict, the eo~unty paying
land damages and fencing.
On motion of C.Purcell iicGue and seconded by J~.E. Abell the following
resolution is unanimously adopted.
WHEREAS, there have recently been destrictive forest fires in this
county presumed to have been started by those engaged in hunting; and,
~HEEEAS, fh~est fires are vet destructive not only to property but to
all types of wild game that has its habitat?in the forsst, at the same time imposing
a financial burden upon the taxpayers in the fighting of such fires; and
V;~SEHEAS, the continuing drought has made the likelihood of additional
fires a serious menance in this county; and
WHEREAS,. This Board is of the opinion that more can be accomplished in
the matte~~ of law observance by an appeal to the good citizenship of the citizens of
this county than by the enactment of additional.restrictive laws;
NOV~ THEPJ~FORE, be it resolved:
1. That this B~ard do appeal to all good citizens of Albemarle who ranter
our timber areas for the purpose of hunting or for any purpose, to use every precau-
tion against the starting of forest fires and to report all persons ~%~o either neglii
or wilfully start a forest fire:
~. That t~s B~ard offer a reward of $~5.00 for information lea~'ing te
the apprehension and conviction of any person between now and the 1st day of January
19~l, who either negligently or wilfully starts or causes to be started a forest fir~
It appearing that Barbour District in Orange County has been allocated
no farm- to -~arket mileage and is asking that the road known as the Somerset-Barbours7
ville road be taken under the Porter-Rhodes Act.
~e therefore wish to co-operate with Barbour district in getting this
Allocation connecting with the Stony Point-Charlottesville road in our county.
